Hi everyone, I am the one that got approved for the Panni, right now I weight 190lb, 195lbs after the Holidays. My goal weight is 165lbs. So as many others my New Years resolution is to get back on track and lose about 20lbs before my Surgery. I went out and bought Protein Shakes, protein Bars, and Xenadrine. I have been on this three days now. but is killing me! I AM STARVING ALL THE TIME!! Right after a shake or bar I feel so HUNGRY THAT I WANT TO EAT ANYTHING! I try not to think about it, but my stomach GROWLS!!! PLEASE HELP WHAT CAN I DO TO SUPRESS THIS APPETITE? Is it the withdrawal from the carbs. (the shakes and bars are low carb)?????
try to eat cold or warm chicken or steak strips
Try to eat tuna salad instead of protien shakes
after you eat this protein meats then wait until you will load of nectar protein drink or load of water ( alot of water) It helps me alot and I do not feel hungry .
I bring cheadar cheese or mozz cheese stick or smoked almonds for snacks
Try to call to see Elina to help you to make new food plans
You can do it!!

I am not sure if I read your post correctly, but are you trying to live strictly on protein bars and drinks alone? I would go crazy without real food and besides, I'm not sure how healthy that is in the long term.
I agree with Kathy, try to focus on high protein foods and use the bars & such as snacks, thats what I am try to do.
I don't know anything about Xenadrine, is that safe for WLS patients?
I gained 6 lbs over the holidays, so I know its a tough time. Just hang in there and I am sure that with proper eating and exercise, we will come out ok.
Would love to help- but I'd need to you fill in some of the blanks- like- when was your surgery? What kind of surgery did you have? Who is your surgeon? What do you keep for normal eating habits. Exercise habits?
The hunger you associate with 'growling' PROBABLY is not your pouch (assuming you had RNY) Hunger can be effectively staved with liquids (water loading) and dense proteins.
Let us know the answers to the ?'s above and let's see if we can address the issues together.
P.S. Not judging- because we've all been there... but- I suspect that Zenadrine is NOT something that your WLS surgeon would have recommended. If you have a pouch you do NOT want to damage it with diet drugs. That little guy is your best asset. Besides, they don't work anyway. So, do yourself a favor and ditch them right away.
Sharon,
I know that although protein shakes are full of protein, they don't fill you up because they don't stay in the pouch very long. You need solid protein to do that. I can eat a bar, but for snacks only... .they do not fill me up either. I am not sure about the ingredients of Xenadrine, but if you really want to take it, please check with your Dr. to ensure that it won't damage your pouch. In my experience, the only thing that works toward staving those hunger pains off is sticking with the maintenance plan, 3 protein based meals with veggies and good carbs, and plenty of liquids in between.
What helps me is to plan ahead. Even if I only shop a couple of days in advance, I try to stock up on the foods that are good for me so that even if I end up throwing something together, I have the right things to eat. Try fitday.com to track your calories and carb intake.
Good luck.... you can do it!

What about South Beach diet plan? I don't hear any talk about it from post-ops- it's what Dr Aranow reccomends at his seminar as a starting point to lose the usually required pre op weight - I lost 40 pounds from Labor Day to 12/28- my surgery date- I think it could work post op too- you should even be able to pare down a bit on the daily menu- its very much like the suggested post op regime- high protein, smart low glycemic carbs, in mostly veggie form - I really liked it and it banished the cravings for the most part. The dense proteins like the other post ops have said- I think that's better than the shakes.
As for the Xenadrine...well I wouldn't go that route either.
How long is your approval in effect for? I think if you can pu**** out a few months and take control to get those last 25-30 pounds off you'd be happier with the results.
