Question for the Ladies...
Hi All,
Guys I apologize in advance for my question...
I'm finding since my surgery (4/26/05) that my "friendly visitor" has been heavier & longer than before. On average I'm going a full blown 5-days and I'm not regular where before I was like clock work.
I haven't had a "visit" yet for December (I'm two weeks late) but WICKED HORMONAL UPHEAVELS...It's so bad I can't stand being around myself...CRANKY...WEEPY....LOWER BACK ACHE (feels almost like back labor...UGH!)...I know I'm having depression symptoms..& almost tempted to call my PCP to see if I can go back on Zoloft to see if it'll help. (I was on it prior to my surgery for depression)
I had my tubes tied about 5 years ago...so I know it can't be the "stork" giving me a visit. LOL..
Has anyone else gone through this change with the weight loss? Did it take awhile for your clock to get "wound" back into a regular rythym? In July I'll be turning 40 (GULP!) so I'm not sure if I'm starting to hit early menopause or not??
My GYN left the state & his replacement has the bedside manner of a crockadile with a sunburn (I could think of a few other choice words) the man almost put me in the hospital a year ago...he got my blood pressure over 200 because he was "yammering" at me on my weight and how I was taking the "easy" way out of losing weight by having surgery. So I need to find a new GYN to go to.
I'm also at a plateau that is driving me crazy..I'd like to lose another 10lbs but the scale isn't budging..the holiday didn't help with all the food hanging around. I could have done alot worse than I did....tried to go for smart choices. I did make a batch of sugar free chocolate chip cookies that were VERY good....however I found myself going after them a little too much for my liking...so I threw them in the garbage tonight...out of sight...out of my MOUTH...I think my PMS or whatever it is isn't helping in this area either.
Thanks for listening...What we gals have to go through..the
fun never stops...although lots of shopping helps!

I'm not a doctor but I have heard that our losing weight so fast after surgery causes hormones shifts which effects things such as mood swings and our periods.
In my case, I was happy at first b/c the surgery brought my first "normal" cycle that I have had in years. But now that I am on the pill, I seem to get my period all the darn time with spotting and irritibility in between. I've become one of those women that have about 15 minutes of "normal" a month.
So.... you're not alone. Good luck on the doctor search, I know that its hard. My boyfriend and I joke that my last GYN seemed to confuse her office for a S&M dungeon. She was just that sadistic at times. Somewhere someone calls that woman Mistress. If you find a good one, let us know.
I'll put my 2 cents in also. I was already warned by many that my hormones would be out of wack for quite a while - the combination of the rapid weight loss and all the hormones stored in the fat. I love my OB/GYN and I drive from Simsbury to New Britain to see Nicholas Lillo. He is very knowledgable and low key and he does not hastle me about my weight or my decision to have weight loss surgery.
I recommend that you talk to your friends/coworkers about their OB/GYNs. You can also talk to your surgeon (or any other doctor/nurse who knows you well) to see who he/she recommends as a fit for your personality and needs. If you don't have serious GYN issues you could also consider a "family practicioner" or an advanced practice registered nurse (APRN).
Good Luck,
Jacqui
I have the SAME issue. I went to my OB/GYN (I go to Manchester OB/GYN and LOVE them!) and I was low on iron. Been taking it faithfully for 2 weeks now and feel MUCH better. Not as tired, more energy, and not as light headed.
And trust me with the holiday food - I got rid of mine too - when I started making a habit of eating a cookie for breakfast!! Back to my cottage cheese. LOL. And hating every second of it.
Good luck with it!!

Hey Mickey,
I have the same problem since my surgery. I am bleeding so much more each month, very heavy and lots of cramps again. I feel like my teens again.
The doctor told me since I had the cystic ovarian syndrome I was not ovulating correctly from being so obese, my walls were too thick. Now that I have lost the weight my walls are normal now and my period cycles are changing with my body changing. Its not a bad thing.
But for your sanity you should find a good gyn and have a complete checkup to make sure your okay. I had to have a biopsy just to make sure that I was okay too. Its very painful and scary but at least I know that my periods are normal now. No more missing, getting too short or too long. Now its every month on the nose, but man is it alot of flowing, pain and yuk!!!!!!!!!!
It will get better, but make sure you have a gyn and get checked.
Hugs

HI Michelle,
I like Christine, have always had my period for long periods of time, only about 1 to 2 days without it. After surgery I have had a normal cycle, which amazed me as I developed a blood clot after surgery and I am on cumadin daily, so I thought of course that my period would be even worse. I am happy to say that it was normal this past month. (I forgot to mention, that I ended up getting the "visit" the morning of my surgery, and that one lasted at least 2 weeks).
Not sure if this helps, but I was warned that my cycle would be "wonky" for a while after surgery.
