Trouble Eating

Hi everyone, I had my surgery Nov. 7,2005. I have lost 42 pounds so far. My problem is everything I eat latley doesn't agree with me. I have tried so many things. At first I thought I was eating too fast. So I slowed way down and I have the same results. When I take the second bite I get this feeling of a real bad gas bubble, and I can't burp. It really hurts and I have to wait it out. Then I don't want to eat.Some times I have to go to the bathroom because it all comes up. This is even happening with the soft foods (mashed potatoes, scrambled eggs) I don't know what to eat anymore. I hate that feeling. It really hurts when this happens. I feel like someone has to burp me! Has anyone had this experience? Does anyone have any suggestions? Thanks, sarah

Hi Sarah, I'd phone the surgeon. Around this many weeks out, you could have a stricture, which is a closing of the pouch opening and it may need to be stretched open again. It's an easy procedure, I've heard. It's better to be safer than sorry, especially since it's holiday week and they may not be in the office many days next week. You don't want to end up having to deal with the ER. Call and have it checked. paula

Hi Sarah, I agree with Paula. Get a hold of your doctor and have him have a look at you. Keep sipping away on whatever you can keep down. Including broths and soups till he gets to see you. Good luck! Julio

I agree with everyone. In the meantime, try to stay hydrated. If protein drinks are agreeing with you, focus on those until you are able to eat again. Good luck!
