Hi guys - I have survived the surgery and am now back home trying to get some "pep back into my step". The staff at Middlesex were awesome. I am nurse and I am pretty fussy (plus I went to nursing school there) but I was truly amazed at how smoothly everything went. Here is a quick rundown (for my 4 friends who were at orientation class last Wednesday) and those who are waiting in the wings. My surgery time was scheduled for 1:45 however, I did end up going in about 30-45 minutes late due to some emergency. My husband said it took about 90 minutes before Dr. Aranow was out and telling him that everything was fine and about another 90 minutes before I was moved up to my room. The staff was attentative but did not hover around me (i.e. they responded when I rang my call bell even in the middle of the night). Everyone was very careful about checking my name band before doing anything, they explained just what they were going to do, asked if I had any questions, and (my biggie) respected my privacy by closing the door and keeping me as covered up as possible. As promised in orientation, my NG tube came out early Saturday morning (the advantage of late afternoon surgery). Where I am now. I finished drinking my 2 required shakes just before 3 pm yesterday and I was out the door just before 4. It was a tough ride home (I am grateful that I had brought my pillow and that it wasn't too cold to open the window so I could have some fresh air). I am still very, very tired. I am sleeping in the recliner because I cannot get in and out of bed by myself (how much I miss those bed rails right now). I ordered a protein sample pack from bariatric eating so I am trying out some of those samples trying to figure out what tastes good. And I have a huge bottle of water near me for sipping. I still have a very positive outlook and I can't wait until the ice lets up a little so I can try to walk outside the houses( like up and down my driveway). Thank you again for your awesome support. I know that I will rely heavily on everyone for the next few months while I begin to navigate my new life. A blessed holiday to everyone. Jacqui

YEAH YEAH YEAH !!!!!! Thanks for the info- it's always a relief to hear that someone had a positive experience- but you know what I mean when I say coming from another nurse it means even more- we see things the general public doesn't.... I am happy you are doing well- and are home- I bought a new living room set a few months back and used the excuse I was going to need a nice recliner for my recovery- so Ihave anice new recliner to sleep in when I first come home. I just ordered some sample packs from bariatriceating.com also - plus I have unjury and stuff - I made a whole little cabinet filled with post- op stuff for me- including the vitamins and supplements, and a thermometer and 2 drink shakers. (no Ididn't by the expensive one on the web site- I got one at Christmas Tree shop for 3 bucks LOL) Well glad to hear you are home!!! Thanks for the post and take it easy !!!! I will see you on the losing side next week!!!!
