Thanks Raven

I go to my preop appt Tuesday!  I am very excited.
I met Dr. Duffy at my info session and liked him alot.  This past Wednesday I went to a support group in New London and Dr. Bell, Liz and Jane were there. They are great too.  Enough about me....
How are you after your surgery?  It sounds like you are fine.  How many days were you at Yale?  I wish you good luck!

I'm doing great. I Went in on Thursday and went home Late Saturday. He was gonna let me stay til Sunday but I was ready to go home and have chicken broth. they give you only water and ensure at Yale..But they let you stay longer if you wish. I am now 2 1/2 weeks out and I feel great, I feel normal. My energy goes down and I need a nap, but I am up and at em, getting out like normal. God is good!

Raven, That's great!  It sounds like you had a great experience! I am very happy for you.  Have you gone in for your 2 week checkup yet?

Well, I am leaving for New Haven in a bit because today is preop day!  This time next week I will be on the other side also! I love hearing from you because you are 3 weeks ahead of me and I can see what's coming and time goes by faster.

Oh yeah, was Duffy great and the care at Yale?  I am so excited and a little scared. I am really do doing this!?

Yes  have gone for my two week check up and they approve you for soft foods and then meats weekly..

The staff at Yale was good, they give you all the pain meds you want, which was good for me. They are pretty attentive. I was scared too and am still scared..lol But you'll do just fine!

I always knew there was a skinny person hiding inside of me..

Just wanted to 'weigh in' on Dr. Duffy....can't say enough about him...

But one word of advice to you pre-ops out there....LISTEN TO WHAT HE SAYS....you might not like what he has to say at times but he knows what he is talking about...stick with what he tells you and you will be successful.  I really didn't want to listen to his exercise mantra (60 minutes 6 days a week) and at 298 pounds I thought he was insane...but I started out small and now I can do over an hour of cardio 6 days a week...I have lost 104 pounds since surgery (7 months out)....I really think for a lot of people exercise is a key component to the success of this surgery.
I wish you all well in your endeavors to join us all on the 'losers bench'.....For those of you at the Yale, if you ever have any questions....please let me know....I attend the monthly meetings at the Temple Medical facility the first Tuesday of every month.

Best of luck,
Courtney

Thanks for the info and advice Courtney!  I live in eastern CT and will usually go to the 3rd wed new london meeting. But you never know, maybe I'll stop by Yale.  I can't wait to be on the losing side!

Hi Laura -
I had my surgery with Dr. Duffy and can attest that he is excellent and his reputation is beyond reproach.  I had my surgery on a Thursday morning and went home Friday afternoon.  I was so happy he let me go home because I was soooo much more comfortable in my own bed.  He is a stickler about exercise, and he is right, but you still have to work up to what he recommends.  I have been doing the treadmill every day and adding 5 minutes a week, so I'm approaching his recommended 60 minutes per day.
Good Luck and rest assured you are in good hands!

Thanks for the email Dianna!  I had my lap rny 6-1 and went home wed.  I have felt pretty yuckky and whiney also.  I am not in any pain either but feel crummy.  Been on a few walks today. Today is better than yesterday.  I think they give too much pain meds out at hospital.  I will write again
