Anxious, Excited and Scared

I am working my way towards surgery this winter and attended my first support group last night. I must say I ran the gamut of emotions while I listened to the nutritionist speak. I know a few people at work who have had the surgery and lost 150 lbs or more and look wonderful. I want to look wonderful! I want to feel wonderful! But the recovery stage and learning to eat all over again terrifies me! I hate pain...I hate discomfort, I hate vomiting...and I'm one of those people who like immediate gradification. I'm not a fool however, I know I must change what I have done wrong in the past to be successful and that I must exercise for the rest of my life....this all seems like a fair trade to be fit and thin. I find myself daydreaming about being at my goal weight (a ways down the road) but know I need to still have the surgery and feel icky for awhile first. How many days of ick-dom will I face? How bad is the pain? How many of you couldn't eat at all and were sick to your stomach? What was the most important thing you learned that helped you through the hard times?

I am one week post-op. The pain for me hasn't been to bad. I hardly used my morphine button in the hospital. And I am off my pain meds as of 2 days being home. My biggest problem right now 1. emotions. They are getting better every day but still a struggle. Make sure you have a lot of support. and 2. I want to chew something. This will come with time. I am praying that state 5 gets here quickly. It is a big choice to make but all in all I feel it will be the best one for me. You have to make sure it is what you really want and that you will be true to yourself and Dr.'s program. Good luck and hugs, Chrissy
