Home from the hospital...
Hi everyone. I am home from the hospital... Everything went real well accourding to Dr. Aranow. Thank you Debbie M for visiting Nancy and I. Your a great friend. Nancy, I hope you were able to get home too tonight. I didn't get discharged until after 4:00 I had my second shake down the hatch by 1:00. UGH. Can't complaine though. feeling pretty good and I am able to sleep in my own bed tonight. The pain meds are kicking my butt. I better get to bed before I fall asleep on the keyboard. If anyone had questions on how things went just post on this CT forum. The email in my profile goes to my work email address and I don't have acess to it right now.
Oh, I have a question. My clafs are a little sore, I think it is muscle sore due to walking laps in slippers ..... my question should I call Dr. A's office and tell them? sorry for any funky typing.... boy these drugs really kick my butt.
Hugs to all,
Chrissy

Hi Chrissy,
Glad to see you are home and doing well! I have my surgery next week at Baystate Hosp in Springfield, I am so anxious and was wondering if you have any advise.....what to bring to hosp, how much pain was there right after surgery, tests they usually do after the surgery. I am sure you are tired, but if you get a chance to post some answers I would appreciate it. I haven't posted that often, but have been . Good luck on your new journey!

Laura,
I brought my own pajamas to the hospital. 4 pairs, 2 gowns and 2 pant sets. You will only be able to wear a gown at first because you will have the foley in. I also brought underpants for when the foley came out. That was the best feeling.... when I get to put underpants on and I could pee on my own. I also brought maxi pads and tampons because I was told that a lot of ladies get aunt flow after surgery.... I did. Thank god. I also brought my own pillow, soap, shampoo, lotion, chapstick (chapstick was the greatest because the first day out all you can do is wet your mouth and lips with a sponge. So the chapstick helps keep the moisture) . That was pretty much it.
As for the surgery. I remeber walking into the room after getting my IV, a pregnancy test, surgar level test, and vitals, I walked into the room and got onto the table. I got some sleepy time meds in my IV and that is all I remember. I did wake up in recovery. I keept telling them my belly hurt. They did come around and gave me my morphine drip then I felt more comfortable. My husband said I made it to my room around 3:30 and my surgery started around 9:40.
I hope that helps. I am feeling better now.
I am sure everything will go very well for you. Good luck to you!
thank you everyone for your posts. Today I am not feeling to good about the pain meds. They are giving me a diffrent med than they gave me in the hospital. I am feeling very out of my self today where as when I was in the hospital I was just feeling tired. I am not in pain so I haven't taken the pain meds today but what are your thoughts on this?
Hugs and blessings,
Chrissy
Congratulations, Chrissy! Glad to hear you're home safe and sound... I haven't had my surgery yet but I recently had shoulder surgery and I know what you're talking about with the meds. Certain pain meds made me feel really bad, not myself and sometimes weepy. I think that if you aren't in pain it's probably ok not to take them as long as you're not suffering just to avoid the meds. If you feel pain, there are other meds they can try I think- call your dr. and tell them how you feel... Hang in there!
I have taken 1 pill as needed rather than the 3 they were giving me in the hospital. I feel better. I don't think it would have been a good idea to cut it off all at once. I am hydromorphine so I think I have to ween myself off of them. I will do 1 pill when needed for the next week and then I hope tylenol will take care of the rest of the pain. I called Lois and she said that was fine. She also said she was going to tell dr A. about the calf pain. She doesn't feel there is a problem but wanted to make sure.
now can i tell you that the horse pill you have to take whole to keep from getting stones, good Lord! I asked Lois.... is the really going to make it down. It did.... just took a lot of propel to get it there.
