Pre-Op Question

My surgery is scheduled for December 6th. My 1000 calorie per day plan starts on Thursday December 1st. Here is my question... is it better to have a "last meal" or just continue to eat healthier meals as I have been? I am contemplating having pizza one last time before Thursday. Usually when I have pizza, I want more. My other thought is I could just go without, but will I regret it if I don't have it? Any thoughts???

I think you already know the answer. So, how do you get the best of both worlds?? Eat a large salad before having the pizza. This will help to fill you up first, then you can enjoy the pizza, and it's a win-win situation.Or even eat a bowl of salad inbetween slices. Think if it as layer cake, italian style Now about last meals..... Are you planning not to eat ever again?? Then it is NOT your last meal. Far from it. There will be alonger life ahead filed with more meals than you would have if you didn't have the surgery. Life is not about regrets, but choices. When faced with 2 choices, the immovable object and the irresistable force, do both. Just less of each. You will have pizza when you are post-op. At the beginning, it may only be the toppings off a slice. But you will eat it in the future. The difficult thing in the future is not being able to eat something, but being mentally satisfied with eating a smaller portion of it. So, get a small pizza from Central Pizza (My personal favorite) and enjoy! Peter

Thank you for your well thought reply Peter. An italian layer cake sounds like a good plan. You're absolutely correct, it is about choices. I have been making lots of them this year. I haven't had it in months-by choice. It's one of the things I am choosing not to eat after surgery. I just wondered if anyone else had the same thoughts before surgery. Sandy

Actually I started practing how I would be eating weeks before my surgery. I ate off little dessert lates instead of regular sized plates . For me it kept the shock value down and helped me get used to smaller servings. Good luck whichever way you decide to do. Be well, Julio

I agree with the replies so far- have a nice healthy salad- and yank the toppings off a slice of pizza and give the crust to the chickens (well toss it if you don't have a flock of chickens like I do...) I went to Panera bread the other day and got a Fandango salad with steak - very yummy- and I took the warm crusty on the outside, chewy on the inside delectable slab of baguette....and tossed it at the chickens.....!!! That was severely difficult. But I figure I will get it back in the form of a nice healthy high protein low carb farm fresh egg. (or a big honkin' steaming chicken poop left on the front steps....)

One of my biggest regrets is not having a "last meal" it was suggested that this was not a good idea, but i would say that it is. In time you will learn to modify your intake, but enjoy the "last meal". For the rest of your life you will having to change your eating lifestyle, so indulge , but be mindful, that you may never cross that path again the way that you do now. Eat and have the last meal... and then get ready for a change. By the way, you may be able to eat pizza again after the surgery, instead of a whole one, you will be filled with a half a slice or a whole slice and then thats it, trust me you will be full.. it just doesn't seem tha way now. Good luck and hope that all goes well with you Jannie
