I have only posted once or twice, but have been reading here for a few weeks. My paperwork for the RNY was submitted at 2 pm yesterday and approved this morning! My surgery date will be May 26. I am in disbelief that this has all happened so quickly, but very excited as well.

I actually came to the decision to have Bariatric surgery to correct my 25 year history of severe reflux. I already had 1 Reflux operation in 2000 that has since failed and my new surgeon, who does both RNY's and the Reflux surgery has assured me that my reflux and weight issues will both be controlled after the RNY. My weight has always been a major factor in the severity of my reflux symptoms, so I am looking forward to living pain free.

I work in the hospital where the surgery will be done, and a good friend is the APRN for the practice, so I am feeling confident that things will go as smoothly as possible.

I thank you all for the great advice, hints and support that I have seen here. I have learned invaluable things from the members that have helped me to feel more prepared for this journey. i look forward to getting to the "losers" side soon!

Congrats! That's amazing you got approved so fast. I waited for a month.

The reflux should be better since they cut the part that makes stomach acid. I had to have an edoscopy for a blockage that was caused from reflux that I never knew I had!

Godd luck with everything.

Thanks Kathy! From my very first information seminar until approval was only a 6 week span. I was expecting the process to be a lot more complicated and involved. he actually would have operated on me a week earlier but my work schedule wouldn't allow it. I am really excited........mainly to be rid of this horrendous reflux.

Mine was 11 months. I had to be in the program 6 months they said but I didn't think I had to. Oh well. Then I waited an extra 2 months to have surgery take care of my insurance for the year. Not stupid. Why pay you max in December when you can do it in Jan and have everything free for the year. I waited a while between the seminar and my appointments. I had to put the foot down with the hubby about it before I started.

Hey Tammy, I love the preggers board. Super nice and helpful. And no, I am not making an announcement. Well, other than we are trying starting next month.
