Party - Must Reply If You're Coming
Hi, All!
As promised, here's the post with all of the details regarding our 2nd annual pre-holiday party. Since the price wasn't definite until we got the results of the "shrimp vote" (unanimously "for"), even if you've previously posted that you're coming to the party, unless you post a reply below, you won't be on the list. Also, Peter Ligas must receive your check (details below) by Mon., Nov. 14th (a week from Mon.). We ask that you not just mail him the check, but reply to this post (giving an exact number of people who'll be attending), so that if your check gets lost in the mail, we'll know to follow up with you and not end up being surprised when you show up (with your spouse and 6 best friends, all of whom are considering having RNY
) and don't have enough food. The 14th is the cutoff to allow Peter (and his wife, Joanne, who are catering the party) enough time to shop (trying to buy as economically as possible) and prepare the food. If he doesn't have your check by the 14th, you will be charged an additional $3 per person.
The party is for anyone who posts on this board (pre- or post-op), along with their friends, relatives and significant others. Other pre- or post-ops who are computer-illiterate or message-board-challenged, but are friends of anyone who posts here, are welcome, too. For example, since the organizers of this party are primarily patients of Dr. Aranow, there will be people coming to the party who attend support group meetings at Middlesex Hospital, but don't post here. Healthtrax is a big place...the more, the merrier.
It is being held at Healthtrax in Newington (where our own Tammy L. works). It's off the Berlin Turnpike (Rt. 15), so it's in Central CT and is easy to get to from I-91 or Rt. 9. Since last year's party was in Orange and our summer picnic was in Waterford, it seems fair to have this function in that part of the state. For the exact address and directions, go to Healthtrax.com, click on "fitness center locations" and the address for the Newington location will be listed. There'll be a link to click on for directions.
It will be Sat. night, Nov. 19th (the Sat. before Thanksgiving, 2 weeks from tonight). The club closes at 6 p.m. on Saturdays, but Tammy said that those of us who'll be setting up will be able to get there earlier to do so, so we can start the party at 6. We can stay as late as we want (or as Tammy wants). We'll have the run of the place, including the pool, hot tub and sauna. There's a large refridgerator/freezer that Tammy said is mostly unused, so we won't need coolers.
The menu is:
Veggie platter with fat-free dip
Low-fat cheese platter with low-fat crackers
Shrimp with ****tail sauce
Salad with fat-free dressing
Chicken wings
Meatballs in fat-free gravy
Kielbasa with sauerkraut
Low-fat chicken parmesan
Spaghetti with meatballs
Chicken cacciatore
Dessert (to be determined...probably some with sugar and some sugar-free)
Coffee and tea (decaf, of course)
Since everyone has different likes and dislikes in terms of cold beverages, we thought we'd allow for that and keep the cost down somewhat by asking everyone to bring their own cold beverage (if they want one). But don't forget that there's NO alcohol allowed at Healthtrax.
Besides fitness-related entertainment, and dancing (which if done quickly enough and long enough is also fitness-related), we'll have a gift exchange for those who wish to participate. I don't remember what it's called, but we had one at the party last year and it was fun. This is how it works: Each person brings a wrapped gift worth up to $10 and in exchange receives a piece of paper with a number on it. When it's time to choose the gifts, the person with #1 chooses any gift he/she wants and unwraps it. Then #2 chooses a gift, unwraps it and decides whether to keep it or force #1 to exchange with him/her. Next #3 chooses a gift, unwraps it and decides whether to keep it or force #1 or #2 to exchange with him/her. That keeps going on until the last person unwraps the last gift. Finally #1 gets to force anyone else to exchange with him/her if he/she doesn't want to keep the gift that he/she ended up with.
For dancing (or just background music), Tammy said that there's a nice stereo, but we need people to bring CD's.
The cost per person is $17.50, whi*****ludes $12.50 for dinner and $5 towards Healthtrax's rental fee (with any excess collected going to a charity...probably Red Cross Hurricane Relief Fund). Please mail your checks (made payable to Peter Ligas) to: Peter Ligas, c/o Hillside Sweet House, 19 Main Street, East Haddam, CT 06423-1047. Remember, Peter must receive your check by Mon., Nov. 14th.
To summarize, if you want to come to the party, please do the following:
--Reply below to this post, giving the exact number of people coming
--Mail your check to Peter
--Get a gift worth up to $10 and wrap it (optional) [participation in the gift exchange is optional; wrapping the gift is mandatory]
--Bring a cold beverage, NON-ALCOHOLIC (optional, if all you want to drink is coffee or tea)
--Bring music CD's (optional)
--Bring a bathing suit and towel (optional) [going in the pool or hot tub is optional; clothing isn't]
Hope to see you in 2 weeks,
Debby
P.S. If anyone wants to help with setup, cleanup, organizing the gift exchange, etc., please include that information in your reply to this post.

Hi Debby,
My husband and I will both be coming.I will forward our check to Peter in the morning. We will also both participate in the gift exchange. Please let me know what we can do to help with the set up, and what time you want us there to help. Thank you so much for doing all this organizing.
Love,
Sandy
