Hi Tara, Well first off, take a BIG deep breath! Also next..congrats to you! I know it is a scary thing. Have you checked out the post-op pregnancy board here on obesity help? There are so many wonderful people on there and pointers etc...also..someone once said that pregnancy should be listed as a side affect becuase we become very fertile after wls, both men and women. I also got pregnant at 8 months post -op I was down 100 pounds. BUT, I did not know I was pregnant until I was 29 weeks along. My husband was diagnosed infertile and both he and I had WLS and we never thought we would be able to have kids, we actually got a call 10 days after my surgery for my 1st adopted child, then we adopted his brother(I was pregnant at the time already but still did not know it) I was on a plateau and fighting with the same 4 pounds up and down, and I thought I had a hernia.....it was funny,,,nver thought i would be pregnant so i never suspected it and I never was sick or anything....but when I started feeling movement and weird sensations I went to dr and here I was 29 weeks along. OK, I did not gain anything for 29 weeks except 4 pounds. Then I gained 20 from then until my 38th week. I did notice I was able to eat more and that scared me but , thinking back this was earlier in the pregnancy. The good thing is once I had the baby, I lost my 25 pounds in 2 weeks, it is weird, after I had the baby it felt like I had WLS all over again. I think you will be fine, don't get scared. So many people have had healthy babies, also there are so many that have had it happen only a few weeks out of surgery. Just make sure you take your prenatals and all the vitamins the dr's suggest. Also, just continue to eat healthier for you and baby and jus****ch what you eat. I admit when i found out I was finally pregnant, I ate certain things I wasnt supposed to becasue I craved them, but as long as it is in moderation . Now after I had baby i have 15 pounds to goal, and actually going for tummy tuck consult on Monday. You will be ok! Just have faith. They say everything happens for a reason! Unfortunatley, my baby was stillborn at 38 weeks, just before I was to deliver him. PLEASE do not think it was from WLS, my husband, myself and the baby had every test imaginable done. We all had nothing wrong with us, it was just an act of nature. I was so healthy when i was pregnant, before surgery I had diabetes and was on 3 meds and during my pregnancy i did not even get gestational diabetes. If you have any questions, please feel free to ask, but you have been blessed! Good luck and please keep us posted! my email is [email protected] Take care! MaryJo

RNY on 12/28/05 with
weight loss of a significant nature often "cures" PCOS and kicks in normal ovulatory status- Congratulations, your infertility is cured.... NOW as for this pregnancy- once the initial shock has worn off and you can think straight again I think that you will see this for the blessing it is. Every child is a gift from God, and many a baby that wasn't planned has turned into a family's greatest joy. We didn't plan our fourth, and her birth gave us the push to put our house on the market (we outgrew it officially with her...) and we in turn found a much better home, in a much nicer town, and are incredibly blessed to have found it. She is the light of our lives, and her sisters and brother adore her. She runs about declaring " I am the BABY" to everyone. Indeed, the Dictator Baby, Queen Baby, El Presidente Baby.... As for your weight loss, my greatest weight losses (non surgically enhanced****ured in pregnancies. I ate better knowing it was not just me I was feeding. You need to get an appointment with the nutritionist and make sure you are meeting the needs of both you and the baby- make every bite count. You need to be on calcium supplements- unless you want to have osteoporosis and decaying teeth later on...Protein and Iron, your b-vitamin supplemtnet- espec folic acid are hugely important- right away. Look forward to actually looking pregnant this time- and not just "fatter"!!!

Tara, Don't panic! One of Dr. Bell's patient just had a baby a few months ago, and she had WLS a couple of yrs. ago. So he'll be able to use her as an example of how you can have a baby and NOT gain your weight back. She didn't gain much at all. Also, call your nutritionist, and ask them about diet during pregnancy. I won't be at Dr. Bell's support group tomorrow evening, but if you go, ask there, there are a couple of ladies who have had WLS and had babies and DIDN'T gain their weight back. I do understand why you are scared. Good luck. xoxo JA PS and congrats by the way!
