Ok, I thought I'd start a new thread for all the Post- ops....What foods do you have trouble with? what make you dump or you just plain can't eat? What foods do you love and what are your staples? Here're mine: Anything with too much fat or refned sugar makes me dump....some fats are better than others...for instance, I had to start eating nuts on a regular basis because my diet did not contain enough fats....and the fat from nuts does not bother me. Anything with too much salt makes me blow up like a baloon....so basically, no fat, no sugar, no salt.... I can't eat chicken or breads, they get "stuck" before they even get to the pouch...apples also get stuck...ditto on peaches....most meats ... My good Foods: shrimp!!! Poached fish (must be super moist and no added fat) Salad with low fat grated cheese most vegetables...love Vegetables!!!!! bananas bananas bananas eggs...over easy or scrambled or poached Simply smart milk with cocoa bean protein mix!!!!! cheese sticks (low fat) pretzels (low salt) almonds, peanuts, all nuts (no salt added) really good cuts of beef, like tenderloin, not too dry, medium or med rare ground turkey cooked with chopped vegetables and tomato sauce.... white bean soup... What about you???? Waiting to hear from YOU! Love, Dorota

Good morning! Unfortunately, I can eat pretty much anything. I try to be very careful, but there are days when I've "fallen off of the wagon" so to speak. I make a huge effort to eat protein first and then vegetable at every meal. I eat a lot of fruit, I feel sometimes I eat too much actually. I've replaced my candy addiction with fruit..... How about everyone else? Tammy

My fav post op food is tuna fish. I hated it my entire life, can't live without it since surgery. I make it several ways to try to keep it exciting but I could eat it happily everyday. I generally eat whatever I want, not much bothers me unless I eat too much of it. The only thing that seems to annoy my pouch is white bread. I am not a big bread fan post op anyway but whenever I have tried white bread it just sits there like a soggy stone.

Hi There, On October 26th I'll be 6 months post op. Good Foods Low fat/fat free refried beans & low fat shredded cheese with light sour cream YUM! Love my soups..tomatoe, cream of chicken etc.. (bean & bacon is my favorite) Chicken (canned or fresh), some thin sliced ham, LOVE CHEESE! It's my staple. Chili, raw carrots, grapes (my favorite!) any type of melons, crackers, light cream cheese with a little sugar free jelly. ricotta cheese w/tomatoe sauce, almonds & walnuts. I eat the inside of the apple & not the skin with yogurt. Fish of any type, eggs, mashed potatoe & sweet potatoe. Salad greens & tomatoes. Turkey (MUST have lots of moisture on it.) SQUASH! Very little pasta (once in a while I'll have a "taste".) High protein oatmeal, cream of wheat (the old fashioned bars are yummy heated with low fat milk!) Raisins or dried cranberries (once in a while) Green beans, lima beans, kidney...any type of bean! I do eat the "topping" off of pizza...no crust or breading. The inside of a calzone works out quite nicely. I get extra cheese & chicken, sometimes meatball. Things I can't tolerate that make me visit the bathroom... Beef of any type. Pork of any type Sometimes hamburger is tolerable like in Chili or sauce. Rice - makes me throw up quick so I just avoid it now. (It's weird sometimes Chicken, ham, or turkey will make me throw up.) I can't eat any type of left over unless it's soup. I throw up right away. I haven't had dumping syndrome (yet) I totally avoid sugar of any type. However I did try a low carb/lower sugar ice cream as a treat & it makes me feel very weak, sluggish, & tired so I don't bother anymore. I also like sugar free jello pudding....sometimes it will have the same affect on me as the low carb ice cream so I eat it for PMS purposes as needed. Graham crackers are pretty tolerable, and I limit my intake. I have tried a few different types of sugar free chocolates..they're ok & cure my sweet tooth at PMS time, however I don't keep them in the house & will pick up a few pieces of "quality" from the mall when my sweet tooth hits. ( I really struggle with PMS it's AWFUL!) No bread...not sure if I can tolerate it & I don't want to mess with it. LOVE my sugar free iced tea, coffee, water, & gatorade water...(forgot what it's called.) No soda, juice, or alcohol. (wasn't a drinker anyways.) Drink hot tea on the weekends. I'm a "sippin" fool! WOW I'm long winded...this was a nice idea Dorota! Take Care, Mickey

Dorota What a great thread! Thanks for starting it. I can pretty much eat anything these days. I have tried some sugary stuff--(a yr out) and I do dump..whish is a wonderful thing-so I stay away. I do not drink when I eat--and I do eat my protein first--it really helps fill me up. I had a hard time with bread at first. I can now eat a half a slice of bread--its always better toasted. I cannot drink regular water to this day. It has to be flavored. For some reason I feel like I am drinking glass...its such a weird feeling. I love my chicken and my salads. I do need to vary my menu--and I am going to get some suggestions from the lists others have made. Joanie

As for me, I am finding that things change with time. At first I could not eat tuna or chicken. I would eat beef most nights because I could not tolerate any other meats. Now I am finding that I can eat tuna again, chicken is getting better, and beef is starting to bother me. I can eat some sugars, as long as it is just a little bit. I can eat ice cream, candy, cookies and donuts, but not cake, brownies, or high sugar sauces. I know I should not eat any of those things, but I have tried them all in little bits. Some things I dump on, some I don't. I am lucky in a way, I can eat most things. One thing I cannot tolerate is protein drinks, unfortunately. But I do enjoy protein bars, and yes, I do read the labels for the better ones.

I measure and weigh all my food.. It helps so keep the portions reasonable and cals down. GOOD FOODS: ¥ Cottage cheese (top of the list for me... my saving grace food) ¥ Ricotta cheese ¥ hard boiled egg ¥ chicken, fish (talapia/tuna), beef once in a blue moon. ¥ salad (small amts) ¥ cheese (lowfat yarlsberg in limited quantities) ¥ fruit (apples skin peeled, small amt of banana, cantelope, grapes, blueberries!) ¥ protein shake every day (use RealMeals) ¥ veggies (after protein, ugh... love veggies) ¥ oatmeal (that I get from nutritionist that has added protein...yum) ¥ carb countdown yogurt ¥ Apple cranberry bran muffins (80 cals, 1.5g fat, , 13 g fiber!, 2g sugar, 5g protein AND YUMMY!) ¥ water water water... with "water sensations" in it... yum. ¥ SF jello BAD FOODS (let's call them cautionary foods) ¥ sips of soda, SF of course. (from my grandson's soda!) ¥ 2-3 roni's once in a blue moon. ¥ slice of whole grain bread with natural p.b. ¥ nuts (small amount, no salt...oh the cals!) ¥ NO PORK! gets stuck every time... ouch! Don't know if I am a real dumper... not testing it out. take in no sugar to speak of... nothing over 9 gms. NEVER eat refined sugar. Afraid I am NOT a dumper and that, folks, would open up pandora's box for me. moderation, moderation, moderation. balance, balance, balance. baby steps all the way. Be well... Towanda
