I tried manny...Atkins, EAS, Boost, Glucerna, and Carnations Instant breakfast ( no suger added).....I hated them all but tolerated the carnation. ( but that was only 5 gms of protein)

I tried Unjury and loved the Choc. Later I tried vanilla and didn't like it. Now I've tried unflavored and use it in my decafe coffee ( have to let it cool to below 130) Just try as many as you can. I've read people love the shakes I hate and hate the shakes I love...lol...best wishes on your upcoming surgery.

If your going to pee with the puppies you can't run with the big dogs....

From my own experience and some others I found out that it is best not to invest in large quantities of any one kind of protien drink before surgery because after surgery I found my tolerance and taste changed and needed to find other drinks I could tolerate. I ended up using unflavored whey protien powder and mixed it with half cup LF milk and 4 0z lite and fit strawberry yogurt (mixed just with a spoon). Later when I was farther out I added the protien into SF instant pudding mix and other foods, just need to experiment with different things.

Wishing you all the ebst on your WLS journey.

thank you for the info. that is a great idea! i didn;t think of that. i actually think that is a great idea to mix the plain protein powder with something like pudding or yougart. i am actually thinking of adding it to my coffee in the morning. i wonder how that would turn out? i guess i will expermenting after all is well said and done! thanks for taking the time to answer....Allison

You can add the powder to hot liquids like decaf coffee or sf hot cocoa, just be sure to tempur it first, by mixing the powder in a little cold liquid  ie. water or milk and then slowly mix it into the hot beverage or it might clump. That doesn't hurt it only it's not so appetizing.

My advice is to get as many samples as you can. That way you haven't invested in a big canister and didn't waste money if you don't like it. I have a sweetner allergr so I used 4 oz of Ensure (regular) and 4 oz. of soy milk (milk turned out to be a no-no for me after surgery. Tore the pouch up something fierce.) and a scoop of unflavored protein. Got me through the liquid phase. Never touched that shake after either. Not as much variety as I would have wanted. I now can tolerate more sugar and use Spirotein (I think that's how it's spelled) and they have great flavors. I know of a place that has root beer float. If I can find the link I will post it for you. I have heard those are good.

Found the link. The have a 16 pack variety pack that is 20 bucks. Not sure if that is expensive or not but it does give you a chance to try different flavors.  http://www.bodybuilding.com/store/opt/whey.html
