ok so I am playing phone tag between the dr office and the insurance company (blue cross/blue shield empire blue) yesterday I sent all the paperwork (note from dr stating I was enrolled in an exercise program, a letter from myself) today I called spoke with my case manager at the ins company he said I was all set he would review it and call me back. I waited and waited and guess what dr violins office called and asked me to provide another letter saying whether or not I have ever been on prescribed meds for weight loss..... grrrrrrr how much more do they need.... I am sorry about venting to everyone but I wanted to let anyone who has empire blue how many hoops they make you jump through!!!

Been there, done that, as I told you in my email. Empire gave me excuse after excuse, when I provided an answer, they gave me another requirement. This went on for some time. The simple reason is that they don't want to pay, they'd rather have you get sick or worse rather than paying out the $20,000 in one shot for surgery. This way, they get to use their money longer, increase profits, CEO pay, and shareholder equity while paying you in small amounts. Not that this is necessarily bad, as shareholders expect a return on investment or they'll take their money elsewhere. You just have to keep it in perspective, remembering that health insurance is a "for-profit" business and you're just another drain on their profit. --Steve
