Hi, Mary!
Don't rush to get different forms of your medications yet. We can swallow some capsules immediately...for example, Dr. A. prescribes Actigall for the 1st 6 months post-op for all patients who still have their gallbladders and we can swallow those from the beginning. Some pills are small enough that we can swallow those, too...for example, the Clarinex I take for my allergies (the ONLY prescription pill I now need as a post-op
) is tiny and I had no problem swallowing it. Some pills can be crushed, but you might be taken off some of them right after surgery. Maybe you should call Lois with a list of your meds and ask her to check with Dr. A. about them. For the ones you'll end up crushing, I used to mix them with a little Hood Carb Countdown chocolate milk to cover the taste and get a little protein down along with the pills. I've heard that many people use a little unsweetened applesauce to mix with crushed pills.
See you Mon. night.
Hugs,
Debby
