Hi everyone, As I was reading the message board postings in the last couple of weeks I came across someone who had done a medical genogram (family tree) detailing medical problems (especially obesity) of relatives and ancestors. You used it as a way of helping to trace medical problems that you have genetically or psychologically inherited. Which of you has done this? I would like to read your profile again and get some understanding of how you put yours together. I thought that I had saved it on my computer, but if I did, I can't figure out where I filed it, or on which of the three computers in our home network it was filed on. In my frustration, I started searching the internet I found a few websites that provide software to help develop a personal genogram (most of the software is for sale -- BUT SEVERAL ARE FREE). If you'd like to check them out here are some website addresses: http://genogram.freeservers.com/HTML/geno1.html THIS IS THE ONE I DOWNLOADED WITH A 30 DAY FREE TRIAL: http://www.genopro.com/ THIS WEBSITE PROVIDES A COMPREHENSIVE INSTRUCTION ON WHAT A GENOGRAM IS, HOW IT CAN BE HELPFUL, AND DEMONSTRATES HOW TO DEVELOP ONE: http://faculty-web.at.northwestern.edu/commstud/galvin/Genograms/ THIS WEBSITE HAS AN ONLINE DEMO ON HOW TO DEVELOP ONE: http://www.genogram.org/ http://www.genopro.com/medical_genograms/default.htm http://www.interpersonaluniverse.net/?source=google I hope this information will be helpful for you especially if you are pre-op and have just begun the process of examination and consideration for the suitability for WLS. Ken, Thank you for this information! I wanted to do one because I had breast cancer. There is a lot of people in my family that has had cancer. There are a lot and was a lot of people who also had problems with weight. I am pre-op. I went to Dr. Ananow for my pre-op interveiw etc. on July 27th. He said that because of I had ulcertive colitis and breast reconstruction that I would have to have the lapband done. At first I was a little upset. One reason was because you loose less weight then you do on the gastric bypass. Then I got home and started thinking and researching the surgery. Any amount of weight that I can loose will be to my benifit. I have problems with getting around. I also have arthritis. So I am looking forward to the day for the surgery. I know it will be a long haul with days of my feeling depressed etc. The support group this past monday was really good. Take Care; Phyllis
