Wasn't Sure...
Go DAve! Congratulations on the weight loss and most especially on being able to complete the climb.
I just flew over Hublein )spelling?) Mountain and Tower in Simsbury on Thursday morning, and I was reminded that I had hiked it about 8 years ago. I couldn't even think about it now!!! I get winded and light-headed
just climbing the steps to my bedroom. But hopefully, after I've had my surgery and been as successful as you have been, I would love to try that climb again in the Fall of 2006
. Some of the most spectacular foliage shots can be had from that location. So I truly envy your climb and your restored energies and abilities, and wish you continued success
So this time next year, I hope to join you in saying, (the surgery was worth it.)
When was your surgery, and how much have you actually lost?
Peace,
Ken

Hello Ken;
I used to live in West Hartford, and I remember at the start of this process (at 400) having a very hard time getting up to Heublien Tower.
About 50 to 60 pounds lighter, I decided to try it again. Needless to say, it was far, far easier!
I started losing weight for the surgery in late January 2005. My surgery was 4/18 of this year. I am not in the "century club" yet, but getting very close... I am about 97 pounds down at this point.
By the way, I am a great lover of photography so I can appreciate what you wrote. Unfortunately the only shots I have of this trip are at the peak and some wild moose.

Hi Towanda,
The extent of my training was to continue to walk every day, at the minimum a mile, for the past 2 weeks. I also joined the Middletown YMCA last week and started with the treadmill in addition to the other walking.
Did it aquedately prepare me for the mountain? Absolutely not!
I knew I didn't have any heart issues or I never would have tried it, and I rested along the way as much as I could. As it was, I arrived at the peak about 3 hours after my friends... and knew I didn't have the strength to make it back down. That's ok, my goal was to just get up there. (Maybe the full round trip next year...)
I have never done any real wall climbing/spelunking, but is does sound interesting!
Good Luck,
Dave
