Another silly question

Is there such thing as too much exercise? My docs office says to exercise 5-7 days a week. But whenever I do it that much I don't lose any weight or I only lose one pound or so. If exercise is supposed to be so great then why don't I lose weight when I do it like I was told to? At other times maybe I could blame it on my occasional pasta or a cookie or something. But if you are exercising all the time shouldn't you be able to enjoy "regular" food every now and then without halting the weight loss? Sorry if I seem irritated but I am just so confused and want to do the best I can while still enjoying life. If that honestly means that I can never eat any of the "no-no" foods again, I guess I will have to accept that. -Christine p.s. I should mention that I lost 86 lbs before I started exercising 5-7 days a week and only 6 lbs in the past 3 weeks since I've been exercising all the time.

Hi Chris...I am interested to see what replies you get. I am not at the exercise point yet. My doc has us walking but being from Florida, it is hard in the summer as the heat is incredible...that is why I LOVE being more North again...easier to get out and enjoy the weather. My doctor does the procedure a bit different then anything I have read about, I had the open and he actually only makes a 3-4 in*****ession near the breast bone (where the rib cage meets.) It's soooo tiny. But I did have a problem with the stitches and a BUNCH of the yellow liquid fatty stuff kept coming out of the bottom of the stitches where the drain tube had been. It's FINALLY closed up now, so I think I'm going to ask about beginning the exercise now. I think ? I'm ready. good luck...good question and the responses will be good for me to learn about too. Hi again, My doc had me walking a mile a day, then at my visit last week (5 weeks out) he told me to start doing aerobic exercise for 30 mins. 3-4 times per week. If you are exercising every day, you may be gaining muscle in addition to losing pounds. They say muscle weighs more than fat. Hope that helps! Robin

Thanks Robin...hopefully I'll get the green light at this upcoming visit. Did doing the aerobic exercises hurt your pouch at all? could you feel it pulling or anything? Laurie

I can only talk from experience and what I have learned since beginning to exercise. Muscle does not weigh more than fat, 1 lb. equals 1 lb. What it is is that muscle is denser than fat, takes up less room, you could be replacing fat with muscle. But it takes several months to build muscle. This weight thing happened with me also, when I began exercising, I lost less, but I also found I needed to eat more, not junk, but protein and good carbs. The body will think you are starving. I work out a lot. 6 days a week at the gym, 3 days a week on the circuit, 6 days a week doing cardio like step class. I am also going to add stretching classes, my muscles are beginning to ache. My weight is starting to come off again, I think because I have increased my metabolism. It works better now. I would like to hear from Kathy, she works out a lot, has done extremely well, she works with a trainer, maybe she can ask her trainer this question. Good luck, keep exericising! Pam

Hi Pam I already emailed my trainer and asked her to give me correct answer and I will post her answer today later. I am so proud you work so hard with exercise and keep your food track. I used to hate exercise before I had this surgery and now I am enjoying myself to do any kind of exercises. It is normal to feel your muscles aches...... I am getting used to have alot of muscles aches all over my body LOL Christine,..... It takes time to build up your exercise and learn to like it. Pick something you like to do exercise . email me if you need my help or any advice then I will be happy to help you with this Hugs Kathy K

Does anyone know...If you are going to do weight training and aroebic exercise in the same day which should you do first? I know I read that it does make a difference but I can't remember exactly which one to do first. Thanks Dee
