WLS tonight on CPTV
Hey, everyone.
For those who might be interested, the subject of weight loss surgery will be discussed tonight on CPTV's series, "Women's Health Update" at 9:30. The episode is about the obesity and diabetes epidemics, their varied causes and society's reactions, and how people make changes in their lives to combat both. Here's the link for info on the series, other episodes and repeat airings of the episode:

Some of you may know that I'm an editor at CPTV. When the producer of the series mentioned that they were doing an episode on obesity and diabetes, since I had been both obese and diabetic, I urged her to discuss WLS. (laughs) She took me up on the offer and made me the subject of that segment. They interviewed me as well as my surgeon, Tim Ehrlich, from Fairfield County Bariatrics, visited one of FCB's support groups, as well as followed me to lunch and tailed my husband and me at Planet Fitness.
God knows, I'm not encouraging people to watch because I'M in it.
Anyone who knows me knows that I'm ANYTHING but egotistical. However, it may be of interest to those of you just starting out in the process since it does discuss preop health topics and aspects of postop life.
Everyone else can just get a good chuckle watching me to squats and cable crosses.

Kathy:
Okay, here are the details:
- If you get your signal over the air (meaning via antenna) on channel 24 or 53, you probably won't get the show, because that signal is down.
- If you get your signal through Eastern CT Cable, you'll see the show on channel 17, unless THEY are getting their signal over the air (instead of via fiber), in which case you WON'T see it.
If worse comes to worst, let me know and I'll see about getting you a tape.
Phew! Technical stuff!

Your post could not be more timely. I am a wls post op myself and I have a young daughter that suffers from the same disease who I am trying to "educate". I am going to tivo this program for her to help me in those efforts. She still believes that if she diets enough, or exercises enough that she can loose weight and keep it off. The girl rides a bike everywhere she goes and Im smaller than her now. Its not working. WHY???? because she has the disease of obesity. Thanks so much for doing this program. I will tell everyone in my family to watch and thanks for being the guinea pig. We appreciate it.
Hi, Bette!
Thank you for posting about the program on CPTV. I saw your post in time to be able to tape it and I watched it late last night. It was very informative and it was nice to put a voice with your picture and posts. You came off very well and the scenes of you exercising weren't funny at all...you looked like you knew exactly what you were doing. I also liked your comment about getting the closest parking space...it's no longer necessary, but it is a coup! I could also relate to the scene of you in the cafeteria taking what looked like 4 grape tomatoes, 3 cucumber slices and 4 grapes to go along with some meat and cheese and a half cup of soup. Just because we can't eat a lot doesn't mean that we don't still like having 4-course meals...soup, salad, entree and dessert...it's just that the total quantity of the 4 courses adds up to less than the size of 1 pre-op course. It showed that one can still eat "normally" after WLS, just less.
