Upper Endoscopy
Hi all:
I have an upper endoscopy schd'd for this friday. I have to have it at St. Ray's since I am on pain killers for my liver mass the Dr. wants an anesteologist(sp?) there instead of doing it in his office. What can I expect? I want to rule out any other problems before I go for my liver resection on Aug 26th. Any of you who have had one can you give me the low down?
Thanks,
Chryssie
I'll be there Friday am as well for an upper GI. They will give you an IV. You will have your throat sprayed with this nasty spray. It just doesn't taste very well. Then you will get something in your IV that will put you out. They will go down your throat with a scope that has a camera attached where they can see everything. If you go to a site like www.webmd.com and search enoscopy, it will explain the whole procedure to you. It doesn't hurt at all, and when you come to you feel fresh as a daisy. If anything, just a little groggy for a few minutes. No need to worry at all.

Dear Chryssie,
I recently had an endoscopy as part of pre-op screening and it was absolutely no big deal. The only very slightly painful part was getting the IV line inserted.. The doc chatted for a bit, the nurse rolled me on my side and put a towel under my head, (to catch my drool I suppose...
) they started the sedative drip and next thing I knew I was back in the recovery room. I went home, slept most of the afternoon and felt fine afterwards. There is nothing at all to fear. A liver re-section sounds very serious indeed, so good luck when the time comes.
Best wishes from
Mary
