Hi guys... I just need to vent... then I can figure out what I am going to do... My cat... Tioga Kitty.. (Ti for short) is 8 years old and a diabetic. I have given him shots of insulin once in the a.m. and then once in the p.m. for about 1.5 years. (trust me, I get ridiculed for that alone.. that is not the problem.. I will continue to give him medication until he is too sick). My problem is.. he needed more insulin last Thursday. My mom is home all day so she called and asked for a refill as well as to make an appointment because he is due to see the Vet. They said he couldnt be seen until Wednesday (tomorrow) and they were not going to refill his insulin until they see him. "he may act a little crazy Monday or Tuesday" is what they said. You know what... if crazy is NOT EATING, NOT DRINKING, VOMITING, NOT MOVING.. UGH! So Mom called the vet this morning saying he is really sick and you wouldnt take insulin away from a human... it isnt like they werent going to evaluate him... You know what they said.... (I have a boxer and another cat) and when Pig (the other cat) was fixed, there is a final payment that needs to be made... they said they will not touch Ti until all balances are paid... They are just making him sicker.... very sad... Can any of you tell me what Vet you use and would they be more compasionate that the one I have...???? Thanks. Amazing how those little furry critters make you love them so much!!!

Miss Beckie, I am so sorry to hear about what you are going through with your furchildren. That is horrid and unforgiveable in my humble opinion. The vet that I use for my girls, two cats - Oreo and Panther, is Bolton Veterinary Hospital. Even though it isn't right around the corner they have been exemplary in their treatment of my girls. In addition they have a 24 hour component for when they are not available. You can go to their site boltonvet.com (add www.) and see a plethora of information on them. If they are too far away from you, you might wish to contact Protectors of Animals (on the East Hartford/Glastonbury line) and they may be able to put you in touch with someone closer to your home. If there is anything further I can do to help, let me know. Good luck and keep me informed. NA

Thank you so much for your suggestion. I agree.. all 3 of my animals are my furry kids... so what that they walk around on all fours! I will keep you posted.

Miss beckie: I had a cat that was diabetic most of her life [probably 12 of her 15-/12 years] and not ONCE did I ever get her insulin from the vet! I always just picked it up from the pharmacy (along with the syringes) and never needed a prescription for the insulin or syringes, either. Call the pharmacy that you use for your OWN meds and see what they say.

Bette.. Funny you posted this... we JUST found out today that no Rx was needed. This whole year and a half they had us call to refill his insulin.. well, when I called the billing department, the lady said no Rx was needed. Basically, this means he went a week without insulin for NOTHING and they NEVER told me this.. all they wanted in the long run was another office visit because he would have been too sick tomorrow to do anything. Thanks for this info! Hugs Beckie

For what it's worth, I always got my supplies for her at either CVS or Brooks Pharmacy...one of the girls at Brooks had a diabetic cat, too! Bette

Hi Beckie, My dog's doctor is at Cromwell Veterinary Clinic. They are the greatest! Actually, my friend had a cat (unfortunately, he had to be put down last year) that was diabetic and she got her insulin Rx's from Cromwell Vet. They were great about everything. My favorite doctors there are Dr. Frattini, Dr. Effron, & Dr. Hurley. They're all just wonderful. I know it's out of your way, but it may be worth it! I live in Wallingford and still make it up to their office. I wouldn't trust anyone else. Good luck. Hope your baby is doing better... Michelle
