I'm 5 days away from my surgery and I'm not really sure what I should take to the hospital. Any ideas???

Hi Jennifer, You must be soooo excited (and nervous too I'm sure). Anyway, I took stuff that would make me feel comfortable. I took my own PJs, flip flops, things for my hair (to put it up), my own shampoo, conditioner, toothbrush, toothpaste, and magazines. Fortunately, other than the first few hrs, I would awake and moving around. Good luck and we'll keep a seat for you on the losing side! xo JA

Wow.... you must be excited. My big suggestion is LIP BALM. Hospital air is always soooo dry. Good Luck, can't wait to hear from you post-op. ~Sue

Hi, Jennifer! I had my procedure done at Norwalk, so things may be different, but they gave me everything I needed for hygiene. I'd recommend, however, something for your feet, since those bootie/sock things suck! Mine were constantly upside down, so the gripper part was on top, and I couldn't bend down to fix 'em. Ear plugs might help. Hospitals, I thought, were always supposed to be in quiet zones, but I have been at ball games that were quieter. Lip balm's a good idea, and a book, if you like to read. Hospital TV gets real old, real fast.

Jen, Make sure you bring a pillow for your tummy. You will need for the car ride home too. When you try to cough, sneeze or even laugh it will hurt. Someone in the group suggested to me to bring a pillow of my own and it was so helpful. You really won't need much to bring. Just usual toiletries and socks/slippers for your feet and maybe a housecoat. I stayed in my johnny the whole time I was there and had slipper socks too. Lip Balm is a definite too. Your lips will get very dry. Good Luck sweetie. Big Hugs to you too. Kim C

Hi Jennifer. All the sugestions you have gotten were great. Especially those ear plugs! I brought a small headset radio as the Tv channels were limited in St Ray's where I had my RNY lap done. You may want to bring a short sleeved PJ made out of something slippery like silk or rayon. Moving around in that bed with that cotton Johnny Coat was an adventure. I didn't sleep much the 2 nights I was there and that little radio was a godsend. Good Luck Girl and know we are all here to answer any questions. Take Care, Julio.

I brought alot of stuff that I never used. What I did use was a big T-shirt to put under the band they put around her it helps with the elastic not being as itchy. And my comfy flip flop slippers that were easy to just stand and slip on. A robe. Forget taking a nighty save that for at home when you have company. Good luck and god bless, pam
