Hiya, I found out on Friday that my appointment for the sleep study was bumped up to this Sunday. My question is does anyone know where Griffin Hospital is? What are the rooms like? Can we watch TV? Need to know cuz I'm scheduled for 7:30PM but I don't go to bed until 9/10PM and I don't know if I'll be able to sleep. Plus I can't take anymore time off from work and I need to know if I'll be able to get dressed there to go straight to work afterwards. Thanks, Jen

Hi Jennifer. First off if the appointment that they make for you is inconvienent for you just rescedual it. If you are going to go to the appointment just call the hospital and ask them. Griffin is off Rt 8 exit16 I think, Just go straight off the exit and take a left at division street. You will go up a hill and will run right into it. You may want to get the adress and do a Mapquest just in case. When my doctor 's staff was picking a date for me I told them that It had to be after Easter because I was going to be out of town visting my mom. The changed my date for the friday before easter and I called them to tell them that I wasn't going to be in town so have fun without me. They changed my date back. Remember girl you have a say in this.Never forget that.! You shouldn't be getting yourself in trouble at work just to make it more convienent for the hospital. Write the hospitals phone number down so if you get lost you can call. Nice thing is Derby is the smallest city in the state so you should be able to find it. Take care and Good Luck, Julio

Jennifer: Can't help you with the hospital location, but I can tell you a bit about the sleep study, at least in my experience. I had to arrive about 8 pm. I was assigned a room with a full/queen bed, a TV, table, and lamp. Nothing fancy; basically motel-like but with no window. First I watched a video (and not a very well-produced one) about apnea. That killed about a half-hour. Then I was hooked up to a large number of wires, or rather, they were hooked up to me. Seemed like there was a wire everywhere - my scalp, my face, under my nose, on my chest . . the study checks a lot of things, from brain patterns, apparently, to breathing, pulse, etc. The ones on my scalp were sort of glued on so they wouldn't fall off, but they came off easily the next morning. I was in bed by 10 watching TV, then was told it was "lights out." I swore that I wouldn't be able to sleep, but I was totally wrong. I was out in about 20 minutes. They woke me up a couple of hours later to tell me that I DID have apnea, and that I needed a CPAP machine. Again, after I got the machine I swore I wouldn't sleep but I did. They woke me up at 7 in the morning and unhooked everything. They had told me prior to the test to prepare to stay the morning for more tests but it turned out that I didn't need anything else done. Went to have breakfast and then went home - I had taken the next day off, just in case. I was done by 8 am so I suppose I could have gone in to work that day. You may want to ask them ahead of time if you'll be needing to stay the next day. You may NOT, but you want to plan on it just in case. Bette
