Dr. Ehrlich's postop vitamins
Hey, Michele!
We're really not REQUIRED to take vitamins, since lapbanders don't have the malabsorbtion issue that bypassers do.
However, a daily regular-old multivitamin is strongly suggested, just to make sure you get enough of everything, since it's possible to not be getting 100% of RDAs simply because you're eating less food.

I haven't tried Vitamist. I usually take the garden-variety, Walmart brand multi for women. Recently, though, I bought Viactiv because a) they were on sale (AND had a doubled 55-cent coupon) and b) I wanted to try them, since I liked their chewable calciums.
Although they are more expensive than regular vitamins, I did really like the taste and the fact that they're more like a treat than a chore.

OK thanks alot Bette. To be honest, I too have been having the Spongebob multivits, I think they are made by Centrum, because my son and I take one together each morning--I'm not sure if he takes it because I do or if I take it because he does!!! In any case, I will make sure that these are appropriate when i have my consult w/ Ehrlich on the 24th. Thanks alot for everything Bette.

I went to a different doctor to have my lap band done but we are required to take vitamins. I have to take 2 "flintstone" vitamins a day and I am supposed to take 2 viactiv every day for the calcium.
Also, every time I go back for a follow-up appointment they draw blood and see if any of my vitamins are low or high and adjust what I am taking accordingly. The most important thing is to get your required amount of protein.
I want you also to remember not to get discouraged because this isn't a miracle operation where you are going to lose the weight as fast as the bypass people do, just take it slow and steady and follow everything the doctor tells you to do.
Good luck with your surgery and recovery and remember to ask everybody here a lot of question no matter how dumb you might think they are, they're not because we don't all know everything about this wonderful surgery.
