Hola, Just wondering if anyone out there has an opinion about which of these gyms is better. I want to enroll in a gym but not sure which is better. Curves would be good because it's right up the street from me but I'm hardly ever in Bridgeport. Most of the time I'm in Stamford so in that case Planet Fitness would work out. Let me know what you think! Jen

Hi Jen: I'm a big fan of PLanet Fitness. I have been going to the one in Norwalk for more than a year. I haven't been to the new one in Stamford yet, but I have also used the ones in Shelton and Trumbull. I am very happy with their facilites, have referred a lot of people there, and God knows you CAN'T beat the rates! There are folks in "our group" that have used or are still using Curves and the Tully Center, I'm sure that you can fid input about Fitness Edge as well. Good luck on your quest for info. Wishing you all the best, Bob

Hi Jen, I joined curves about 3 weeks ago. I really like it, as it's "Low Key" and everyone is really supportive of each other. It's a fun atmosphere & the work out takes about 30 minutes. I've noticed a difference in my legs & upper arms. I haven't been able to use a few machines that are there due to them utilizing the stomach muscles and for another week that's still off limits to allow for healing. The had a special for a $39 one time sign up and then it's $30 a month. Very affordable. It's about 10 minutes from my house so it's a short commute. Mickey

Hi Jen. I joined Planet Fitness 2 weeks after my surgury and just love it. Its staff are very supportive and willing to explain how all the equipment works. Everyone is friendly and you work out at your own pace. Have been going for two months now and really love it. The price is very good as well. I would say they are the best deal in town. Good Luck and take care! Julio

I haven't tried the other gyms, but I recently joined Planet Fitness in Hamden and so far I love it. I felt very comfortable from the first moment I walked in, which is something that I have NEVER felt in a gym. Good luck in your search!

Hi, Jen! I started at Curves in Fairfield a month pre-op. It was a GREAT place to start, because I was soooo out of shape! It was fast, easy to do on the way home, and not too taxing for my not-used-to-exercising body. Also, they are great about weighing and measuring on request, so I can keep track of how I was doing. Even when I plateaued, I knew that I was still losing body fat, because the measurements (and BF measurement) showed me. After about 10 months, though, when I got in better shape, it was not as physically challenging, since their machines are not adjustable to make you work harder. Also, my husband had been wanting to join a gym, too, and we wanted one we could go to together. He and I joined PF (Trumbull) in November (I still went to Curves, too, until my membership expired.) We love PF and have no major complaints. Our only gripes are about inconsiderate gym USERS, not the facility or the staff. I WILL tell you, however, that there was one more reason for my deciding to leave Curves. The founder of Curves is a huge supporter of the Right to Life movement. While I didn't want to, essentially, punish the franchiser for the founder's opinions, I couldn't in good conscience, give him any more of my money. Feel free to email if you want more specific info about either Curves or PF. Bette
