Recliner Question
I pondered the same question before my surgery two months ago. Someone suggested renting a lift chair recliner. Expensive and not necessary (IMHO). I did wind up getting a new recliner and found it great to sleep in for the first two weeks after surgery. The abdominal binder my surgeon required you wear for those two weeks was uncomfortable and lying completely prone in a bed was difficult, not because of pain, but moving around and getting up from a prone position was difficult at first. The recliner (make sure it has lumbar support) just kept me in the right position and the momentum of changing it from the reclined position to sitting straight helps you get up more easily. After the first two weeks you really won't need it, but they sure are comfortable for watching TV !!
I bought mine on sale at Lazy Boy for @ $400. I'm not small and they come in different sizes; everything from little old lady size to big guys like me.
No, a recliner isn't a must but but you will for sure be more comfortable post-op.
