First milestone reached
Well, it's taken longer than I wanted, but I've finally reached my first major milestone. I've been hesitant to post my progress, fearing that I would get stuck in one of the dreaded plateaus.
When I started this journey on October 11, 2004 at 362, my fantasy goal was to get below 200. I never expected to really do it, I would have been more than happy to lose even 100 pounds. Exercise, along with paying attention to what I eat has paid off.
This morning I was 198, less than I weighed in High School (and that was many, many years ago). I've had my share of bad days and good days, along with some complications. I still have a hernia which will have to get fixed, and perhaps a panniculectomy to get rid of some excess skin.
Folks I've known for years no longer recognize me. I'm in 36 regular jeans, down from size 54. I wear medium or large shirts. Nothing I wear has an X next to the size. I lost a shoe size. I've replaced my wardrobe three times. Jewelry falls of hands and fingers.
I'm convinced that the surgery provides the most permanent and sustainable weight loss treatment, despite the risks involved. I'm definitely pleased with the results. I'd like to lose another 15 or so before my hernia surgery.
164 pounds gone in less than 8 months, hopefully forever.
