Overwhelmed with Revision

Hi Gang,

Just wanted to bring everyone up to date where I'm at.

I'm having revision Surgery Jan 6th with Dr. R.  Today I met with him.. went over the surgery, pro's/con's etc..signed off on all the paperwork and talked about further weight loss.

I was so anxious & upset.. My blood pressure sky rocketed to 160/90 something.. usually it's around 117/72 or so.  Of course I freaked out.. but I also had a bought of dumping syndrome on the way to the appointment with my heart racing like a banshee so I think it' didn't help any.

He is doing a VERY BIG undertaking to correct the current mess I'm in.  I'm very very emotional now where it's just a few weeks away & the ticker is starting to count down.

I know I need to have the surgery in order to eat again.. today I woke up with dumping sydrome & constant nauseau & burning.. not a way to live.. there's only so much liquid & protein drinks before you say enough is enough.

Downside.. is he thinks there is so much extensive "mess" that he may have to stop the laproscopic surgery & go through open in order to see everything or fix what he can & see how things progress.  My husband & I are weighing the options & have until surgery day to make up my mind what I want him to do.  I really don't want to be back to square 1 again a year from now because I didn't give Dr. R the opportunity by having him open me up (if necessary)

What a night mare.

Plus side.. no fasting before surgery as my BMI/weight is good.  Down side yummy fleet enimas for 2 days & a liquid diet to clean me out.. BARF!

Downside.. losing more weight.. don't have that much more to play with & I'll definately lose more... (maybe 10-15m pnds tops to work with.)

Upside.. Jessica D & I are our support people for each other.. how cool is that!??

I do plan on working right up to the day of surgery providing my liquid diet doesn't wreak too much havioc while at work that Monday.. we'll see.

Jess... if you're on the boards.. see you tomorrow for the meeting.

Best of luck to both of you.. I know it's got to be nerve-wracking, but you're in good hands.

I am sending MAJOR prayers out to you that this surgery finally sets you straight and on the path to a new "normal" life

Thank you both for your encourangement & good thoughts.

I had the surgery to improve my health/life style & I have no regrets whatso-ever in that decision.

I'm just very saddened to see that majority of what I have to go through with the revision could have been prevented if the original surgery was done correctly.

I know I'm in good hands with Dr. R.. he's extremely thorough to the point of obessiveness.. LOL.. & that's a VERY good thing.

I got more overwhelmed at the post-op seminar yesterday there's been a few minor changes with after-care that wasn't taking place 3 1/2 yrs ago.. so that was an eye opener.

The one positive thing with all this (besides being able to chomp on some steak again) is I have a handle on the protein & fluid in take.. unlike the first time around where I struggled with it.

There is light at the end of the tunnel..   :-)

You are so right about the different aftercare - this time there might actually be some!!! LOL But your right, things that Andrea was saying I just kept looking at her!  For me the hardest part will be the drain for a week - The only time I ever left the hospital with one was for my tummy tuck and they (yes, there were 2) were so freaking annoying!!!  I'm really nervous about that.

Last night I went to fill my scripts and damn near lept across the counter at the guy behind it at Walgreens.  He started questioning my I was getting liquid dilaudid - treating me like I was some kind of junkie.  He's like you don't need the liquid, the pills should be fine.  I wasn't about to explain (nor should I have to) my I needed it and then he tells me that its a special order and that it won't be in before I left for the hospital.  I am thinking about calling or emailing Walgreens, I am that annoyed!!

I'm going this weekend to get everything filled.  I was going to go to Walgreen's but may switch to CVS after your experience Jess.

How is your liquid fasting going?

I would definately go further with Walgreens.  HIPPA policies are in place for a reason.. totally inappropriate on the pharmacists bedside manner.

Got out of work early to try to clean the house & get some cooking done for the holidays.

Trying to get everything organized before I come home from the hospital.  Hate a messy house
drives me crazy & my "boys" don't understand what cleaning a bathroom really means.. LOL..

It sounds like you guys are getting something different, but when I had the surgery, they prescribed Roxicet, and it took a little doing for CVS (vernon) to figure out that they had it.. they were looking everywhere before they found where they keep it.

I don't have Walgreen's around me, but my sister does and the pharmacist at her's was totally inappropriate in talking really loud to her HUSBAND about her meds when all he was doing was picking them up...it really got her mad.

All pharmacies are the same.  I have probs with CVS all the time.  I take a controlled med for anxiety and I've been on it for many, many years.  But, because there's SO much abuse of it with people that are addicts and abuse it, they lump me in with that same group...They've shorted me my total rx before and won't cop to it calling me a liar, etc.  That's why I insist on counting my pills each and every time I go in to pick up my rx.

They are SO busy, they don't give us the service that the old "mom and pops" used to do.

Ya know, I had an open RNY and it wasn't that bad. I wouldn't worry too much about having to be opened up if you have to be, In fact, when I went in for my gall bladder, I fully expected Dr. A to have to open me up and packed a bag just in case. Good luck with all of it tho!

Hey Kath,

Problem is Dr. doesn't want to open me up (if at all possible) because I've been OPENED up 2x already... too much scarring.  (2nd operation.. I never should have been opened up for & it could have been done lap....)

SIGH.....

My original RNY was open.  Mess that occured in April was open also..
