Just wondering if anyone has had experience there? That is where I will be going. The info session was great and Dr. Barba seemed so nice. Just wondering what your thoughts are regarding that hospital~ Bethany

BETHANY,I HAD RNY BY DR BARBA AT ST FRANCIS HOSP. ON APRIL 11TH 2005.I HAVE HAD NO COMPLICATIONS AND HE IS REALLY A GREAT DOCTOR.ST FRANCIS USES 2 FLOORS POST OP.I WAS ON 6-1 AND NOT THAT THRILLED WITH THE CARE THERE ,HOWEVER I AM A NURSE AND HAD A COUPLE NURSE FRIENDS AND MY FAMILY WITH ME SO IT WAS OK.I DON'T KNOW WHAT 5-1 IS LIKE BUT I THINK IT IS BETTER THAN 6-1.THE FIRST DAY I HAD A HARD TIME GETTING PAIN RELIEF,BUT THE 2ND DAY THE NURSE HAD MY PAIN MED CHANGED AND IT WAS FINE AFTER THAT.MY ONLY PROBLEM IS DRINKING ENOUGH WATER AND GETTING ENOUGH PROTEIN.I'VE LOST 32 LBS AND I'M WONDERING IF I DRANK MORE WATER I MIGHT LOOSE MORE WEIGHT.ANYWAY GOOD LUCK WITH YOUR DECISION TO HAVE SURGERY.MAUREEN

Hi Bethany, I had surgery at St. Francis on 4/26/05, Dr. Barba is a very kind doctor. I was on the 6th floor, and I wasn't too pleased with the the "cleanliness" aspect, however I had a GREAT experience with all of the nurses. Each one that I met was attentive & understanding. I was lucky to have a nurse in training named Heather on one day, she was by my side practically her whole shift and we had a great time together. I also lucked out with having a "semi" private room but didn't have anyone else bunk in the room with me as a patient so I guess that enhanced my experience. I have heard level 5 is much nicer. Jessica is a GEM if you need to contact Dr. Barba's office for anything. They are extremely busy, and it might take a day for a call back (or sooner) however when you're on the phone you feel like you're the most important "patient to their office." To date I've lost about 40 pounds, & I go back to see Dr. B next week. I had a minor setback with throwing up one day, where I was scared to death that a stricture might have been forming..however it was just me eating the wrong thing that upset my tummy along with taking Iron pills that were too strong for my new system. This was almost 2 1/2 weeks ago. Since that little hurdle, I feel great and have no regrets about having the surgery. Best wishes on your decision on the surgery, Mickey
