Hi Everyone, I am 10 days post op and everything is going great. Lots of liquids, clear soups, yogurts, etc. The one thing I am not feeling is that fullness that everyone talks about. Now don't get me wrong, I don't want to feel full like that, but I'm just surprised at how much liquid I can get down without that feeling. I am quite satisfied after drinking something or having soup etc. but I really thought with such a small pouch I would feel different. I hope I'm not stretching things already, but wouldn't I feel that? Maybe I'm just doing the right things?? Any post ops with this experience would be helpful. Thanks, Adam

Hi Adam, Don't worry about things right now. You probably won't feel full right now for one being on liquids will go right thru your stomach kind of like a funnel when you poor water thru it. There is nothing stopping it or slowing it down so you will be able to handle more than food. Once you are on solid foods you will notice a difference. Another reason you might not feel full is your stomache just had major surgery and your nerve endings need to heal first before they will start to pick up again on feeling full. Give it some time and you will notice a difference. Just keep on the plan your doctor gave you and you will be fine. Good luck Heidi 2687/170?/147

Adam, You're doing just fine. The swelling of the opening of the stoma is reducing some, and liquids will pass faster at it does. You are not eating anything which would cause anything to stretch. You may not be thinking of any difference, but there is alreasy. You mention that a smaller amount of liquid is filling you up. One of the things you have to learn is a different feeling of full. In the past, you needed a full stomach. Now you should be looking for a comfortable pouch, not full. Place your fist right below your rib cage in the center of your chest. That is now the location of where "full" will come from. Take the time to learn the signals. Hope the stretching you are doing is your legs as you walk. LOTS!!! I know you want to feel better for the boat this summer. Peter

Hi Adam Thanks for posting this. I'm just a bit behind you in my surgery. I'm at nine days. I'm having the same feeling. Maybe I was just expecting something different. I'm totally compliant with my diet, in fact I have to make myself eat. I just don't want to. When it comes time for a meal, I almost feel quesy at the thought of eating. Anyone else have this? But as for fullness, hasn't happened yet. Not that I'm not satisfied either, just not full like I used to feel. Take good care! Heather

You hang in there. It's a different kind of full than what you are used to. I'm six months out, and I'm just experiencing the "full" feeling. I used to feel nauseaous when I was full, but it doesn't last forever. Love, Tammy 272/185
