Call me crazy, but we got a puppy!!!
We lost our beloved black lab in Nov after 12 wonderful years, and finally, just recently, we were all healed enough to even think of getting another dog. Well, my youngest daughter (15) convinced Dad that it was time. We got a little girl 12 weeks old, another black lab. She is so beautiful I can't even describe it here. Her name is TOBI. My youngest has asked Santa every single year since she was 6 years old ( yes, I have all the letters) for a puppy. And today she got her dream.
I can tell all of you here as honest as I can possibly be, so so many nights I would lay in bed and pray.......God, please, give me a sign, tell me what to do to lose weight. I'll do it. A pill, no carbs, no fat, only cabbage.... Just please give me a sign. I just can't tell you how many nights I begged.
A dog isn't in any way comparable to this life saving surgery. But it is still hope. And I know, many of you have layed awake praying for a way out a way to finally succeed. So trust me, if my 15 year old can convince my husband to finally get a puppy. THEN ANYTHING IS POSSIBLE!! Don't give up! Follow your dreams. This is an amazing gift we give to ourselves. It isn't easy, but it sure is worth it. I was always looking for a way OUT, this was a way IN. A way to a life worth living.
A puppy isn't it, but my daughter NEVER gave up. She kept on trying, and trust me, my husband was dead set against another dog. He finally gave in, because he realized, she would never rest until she was happy.
ok, so maybe I exagerate a tiny bit........a tiny bit.
love and hugs to all,
Cheryl
Congratulations on your new baby puppy! It seems like there are so many things that happen since I've had the surgery that I say gee imagine this or that. This has been the best thing that happened to me. Its changed not only my size but how I think of myself and how I think of others. Maybe that puppy was such a good thing that it is easy to relate it to the surgery? who knows congrats to the puppy they are sweet.
Hi Cheryl
Congrats for your Puppy, TOBI and she is part of your family now. You will be busy to train her basic obey and take her for a walk or jog with her like I do with my dog, Jill. She took a good nap after we excercise LOL!!! I am sure that puppy will never replace your other dog but she will delight your younger daughter's life. Please take pictuure of TOBI and post this on this CT Board so We can see what she looks like SMILE!
Miss ya

Congrats....Tobi sounds like she has a great forever family. I just loved your post. There is always hope. We wouldn't have gotten to where we are if we didn't have that hope.
I got my german shepherd pup the day after I came home from the hospital from my open RNY. Everyone got up and went to work and school the next day and I had to deal with a not housebroken 8 week old pup. And we have 2 pugs that the pup thought were her own personal toys. The best thing that ever happened to me. Got me up and moving every single day. In addition to playing doggie referee I had to clean up after her and she had to be taken outside frequently. And we bonded well before I had to go back to work.
Good for you dtr--she will go places in this life with her persistance- a great trait. Enjoy!! Linnie
Hi Cheryl,
I know exactly what you are saying. Of course, as the owner of two dogs that are the loves of my life, I am partial to dogs
But WLS is a true gift and an answer to a prayer that I said every night of my life from age 10 until last July.
Prayers do get answered!
JA
PS Best wishes with that baby! They are truly wonderful!
