BACK HOME
HELLO EVERYONE. I CAME HOME FROM HOSPITAL ON FRIDAY. IT DID NOT GO WELL FOR ME. DURING THE SURGURY THE DR FOUND A MASS IN MY INTESTINES SO THEY HAD TO GET ANOTHER SURGEON AND OPEN ME UP. I HAVE 45 STAPLES. I ALSO BLEED AND THE HAD TO BE TRANSFUSED. IT HAS BEEN SLOW GETTING AROUND. I AM IN PAIN AND CAN BARELY MOVE. I AM THANKFUL TO BE HERE. EVERYDAY I DO A LITTLE MORE. I AM TRYING TO TAKE IN ENOUGH LIQUIDS, ALONG WITH MY MEDICATIONS. I DO NOT REGRET DOING THIS. I BELIEVE THINGS HAPPEN FOR A REASON. IF I HAD NOT HAD THE GASTRIC SURGERY I WOULD NOT OF FOUND OUT ABOUT THE INTESTINE MASS TILL IT WAS TOO LATE! THE DR AND THE HOSPITAL STAFF WERE GREAT.

I can't believe they didn't find the mass with the abdominal ultrasound...
As far as the transfusion, I believe that happens frequently with longer surgery times. Even so, It's probably good that they found the other problem now.
45 staples has me beat though, I had only 24.
I wish you the best with your recovery. Take it easy, get lots of rest.

Steve,
Joanie-u/s tech here. The abdominal u/s would not have seen an intestinal mass. U/S is for soft tissue organs and is not good at seeing bowel. Bowel contains air/stool..which stops sound waves. For this specific reason I requested an endoscopy and colonoscopy before mysurgery...not required by my surgeon. As it was...even with that..the 23 feet of small intestine were not looked at with those exams.
OK..enough medical lessons today. Thank God Spledelicious is back home and recooperating.

I can not believe all you went through. I too came home on Friday but without the complications you had. Thank God you had the surgery so the mass was found. Hope the prognosis is good. I am in pain and moving slowly, you certainly will be due to all you have been through. Your strength and endurance are especially going to be low due to all you have been through. My thoughts are with you. Kris
