HI Everyone, I got home late in the day yesterday from the hospital. Knock on wood, so far so good. No nausea or vomiting. Just EXTREMELY Sore!!! Dr Giles does open RNY so, it's to be expected. But HEY!!!! No one warned me about the drainage tubes getting pulled out!! OHG!!! I thought he was going to pull toes up out of my drain spot on my lrft side. Man, I hope I never need to do that again! Otherwise. my protein is going down well, and everything seems ok. Sleep seems to work best in the big lazy boy recliner. It's really the muscle soreness that seems to be holding me down. I do seem kinda light headed with the pain meds too. It comes and go. Just thought I would say hi! Thanks for all the thoughts and prayers! Heather

Having the drains pulled out was like someone pulling out my stomach with a bent coat hanger. Thankfully, it only took a few seconds for each one. I had main from the incision for several weeks, especially when bending down or getting up from a couch. I didn't take any pain meds, as I really don't like those narcotic painkillers. I did take several Tylenol a few times a day (using the Tylenol liquid). I slept in a recliner for a few weeks. You will likely find it much more comfortable than laying down for a while. Don't be afraid to rest, rest, and rest some more. Avoid any strenuous activity or lifting. Let us know how you are doing. --Steve

Hello Heather, Welcome home. Its good to hear your doing ok. It will take awhile for the pain to subside but you will be fine. The drain was the worst for me too. Sleeping was very difficult, I had to stay on my back and side and a couple of times I would forget and roll onto my tummy, boy did that hurt. The worst of my pain was my left arm. Being on the surgery table killed my back and the ivs in my arm too. That was the worst, but everything else was ok. Congratulations on your first step to the losing side. Keep your chin up it gets much better believe me. I am 4 months and 2 weeks post op and I have lost 80lbs and I feel fantastic. You will get there soon. Take care and God Bless Hugs Kim C

Aah- the Lazy Boy days! I remember them well. That recliner was my best friend post op. I had open RNY too. The muscle soreness will improve with time, not to worry. I'm glad that you're doing well and seem to be progressing. In a little bit you won't need toe pain meds, so the dizzyness will not be a problem either. Hang in there & get your rest. Take care, Lisa C

Damn, that is the part I'm fearful of in the hospital. I'll have to tell the doc to make sure I'm knocked out when they pull the drain, otherwise there may be a physician out there with a broken jaw, haha. Kidding. I'll make sure to pump myself with some morphine before they do it. UGH!
