Annette, I have always worn the panty girdle type undies and since surgery I wear the ones that come up higher and cover my incision. I like to have a flat looking tummy and I feel these really help. I don't know if they make your muscles stronger or not but my tummy doesn't sag it is just sort of fat. Good Luck, Heidi

Lap Band on 08/18/04 with
Annette, From what i have gathered from my research on this is that if your skin is going to snap back it is going to and if it's not then it's not going to. It has to do more with genetics and how long your skin has been stretched out (i.e. if you have been morbidly obese for a shorter amount of time the more likely it will go back but not necessarily) Unfortunately, I look like a hot air balloon that has been deflated After your surgery you will be given a binder (which is kinda like a girdle) to wear for a few weeks. It helped me tremendously with pain control. Eileen

My thoughts on this: a girdle will make no difference in helping your skin bounce back. Sorry. But, it can, of course, make you look flatter and smoother. You should be thoughtful in your use of 'support' garments immediately after surgery. If you have open surgery, you probably will be issued a binder, which helps support your abd. muscles while they are healing. (I think sometimes lap surgery folks get them too, but not as often)However, I have seen people become overly dependent on them, thereby slowing down their healing process. It is important for you to develop muscle strength after surgery. The more 'support' you give yourself, the less your body/muscles have to do the work. So- I'd advise using the support judiciously. Good luck to you!!! Lisa C

THANK YOU EVERYONE ON YOUR THOUGHTS...I WAS JUST THINKING AND THAT IDEA POPPED INTO MY HEAD....THOUGHT I WOULD POST IT ON HERE AND FIND OUT WHAT OTHER PEOPLE THOUGHT AND I APPRECIATE IT....I WAS THINKING IT COULD HELP ME WHILE I TRAIN MY MUSCLES AND EXCERISE....BUT WHEN THE TIME COMES FOR ME TO HAVE THE SURGERY I WILL MORE THEN LIKELY CHANGE MY MIND AGAIN ABOUT USING IT....RIGHT NOW I WEAR IT ABOUT ONCE A MONTH JUST TO '' LOOK'' A BIT BETTER....THANKS AGAIN ON YOUR THOUGHTS.... SINCERLY, ANNETTE
