Hi Everyone, Well just a couple of days to go. I am starting to get really nervous..not so much about the lifestyle change as I am looking forward to losing weight..but of the surgery itself. I never had surgery before. Anyway..I have lots of faith in Dr. Aranow. I would love to hear from some of his patients who have had Open RNY. See you all on the losing side. Adam

Hi Adam, Dr. Aranow performed open RNY on me last October. I was also very nervous just prior to my surgery. If you haven't heard from others, he visits you right before you go into the operating room and asks you if you are truly ready for the surgery and aware of all of the risks. At the time, you are fully prepped and it's somewhat scary. Keep in mind that you have probably researched the surgery inside and out, and have made the difficult decision to move forward. So don't let that rattle you. Being nervous is ok, we have all been there. To be honest, sometimes things happen following surgery that are difficult too. That said, I would do it again, and am happy with my health and progress to date. Best of luck to you and please do not hesitate to e:mail me if you have any questions. Lori

HI Adam!!! Blessings and Light on Monday!! I have no doubt that you will do fine! I'll be having mine on Tuesday at New Britain. So we'll be at the same stages alot of the time most likely. Don't hesitate to write and we can compare notes. I'm scared too the closer it gets. But for me it's the after that scares me. I just hope that I can live up to my end of the deal. But this is truely the best thing that we can do for ourselves and for our families if you think about it. Take good care and just concentrate on healing and starting a new life!!! Brightest Blessings Heather

Words cannot express my thoughts. We've been involved in many things over the years, and I can tell you the stage will soon rest easier after losing all this weight! My highest anxiety was the day before surgery. All of a sudden it hit me..... I was getting ready to lose my identity. "The Big Guy" as Gail would say; the HUGE guy as others would whisper in the background elsewhere. I was worried about being able to do the things which I could now since my size allowed me to move almost anything. I spent 3 hours talking with someone who had just had the surgery about 6 weeks earlier, and learned that life would be different. A life like I had never had before, so I had no reference to go by. All I can tell you is that your new life will be beautiiful, filled with an already skinnier wife, children and someday grandchildren to enjoy. You WILL live long enough to see them, and be able to move and enjoy them as a participant in their lives rather than a spectator. A life where machines are not needed to insure you see the next day, pills to balance what the body is not able to regulate on its own, and full of energy not to just survive the day, but enjoy many things which may now exhaust you. Our thoughts, prayers, mazel tov, and wishes for a quick surgery, short recovery, and , as we toasted before " TO LIFE!" Lazar Wolf.... aka Peter

Adam Its natural to feel nervous especially since this is your first surgery. I was more nervous the day befor my surgery...when I got on that table I knew it was the right decision..I felt a calmness--I didn't expect. I had done my homework and was ready. Now 10 and 1/2 months out...and 83 lbs gone forever..I feel like I gave myself a new life. You are in great hands with Dr. Aranow...I will keep you in my prayers. The losers bench is within reach...Good Luck Joanie
