HI - I have the typical food stages and suggestions for each posted here: freepgs.com/bariatricbytes/food.html that may give you some new ideas. Good luck!

During the pureed stage, I ate alot of Hormel 98% fat-free turkey chili, and also canned fat-free refried beans. I ate both with fat-free sour cream on top...yummm... I actually still eat both on occasion. I also bought canned chicken, and mashed that up too with light mayo. Good luck.

Jose- Stay away from those mashed potatoes!! Your body needs protein...and introducing carbs so early post op is a HUGE mistake in my opinion. Scambled eggs...refried beans...there are plenty of choices. Protein shakes... Unjury.com...the powder mixes well. I used the unflavored with carb coundown chocolate "milk". Hope this helps. Good luck on your journey and heed my advice...NO CARBS! Joanie

Hi Joanie, I had the open RNY...my 1st phase of soft foods is listed with mashed potatoes..(only had them once)...with 1 oz of potatoe going in, ( if I can get the whole ounce in) how will the carbs affect the weight loss? I'm trying to stick to the guidelines..& if there's any tips from you & everyone else who can share their experiences, I'd greatly appreciate it. Hugs, Mickey

Michelle, In general Joanie has a good point to avoid carbs, but I wouldn't get all freaked out about an ounce of mashed potatoes, they actually helped me get down some steak (only the best cuts though) and some chicken. The key is to eat only a small portion, and to be mindful of your calories, especially those from fat. I also occasionally have an ounce or so of sweet potatoes, and enjoy them with a small piece of Tilapia. --Steve

I had lap band on 3/3 and I was told by my doctor and my nutritionist that I am not allowed any carbs (by way of starch such as potatoes, bread, pasta****il about 10 months out. I'm okay with that and I actually have lost about 42 pounds since first going to see the doctor, I lost about 32 since surgery. I ate a lot of tuna with hellman's light mayo, egg salad, chicken salad, cottage cheese and regular cheese. Just make sure that you chew everything until you can't chew it anymore, you don't want to get anything stuck. Another thing my nutritionist told me was that we should not have peas or corn and make sure any cheese you eat is low fat. You can also try some low fat yogurt if you like that. Hope that helps you a little. Patty
