Please someone help I have been craving them and only found these sugar free popsicles made by Popsicle. I have babied my pouch constantly and I am so afraid to dump on any kind of sugar! Krista, Its ok, I have had them since I got home from the hospital too. They are good for your fluid intake and they won't hurt your pouch. Try some of the SF Philly Swirls too for a change of pace, they are made with splenda and they are like italian ice. I love them and never get sick of them either. Also if you get board with your fluids, try some egg drop soup, Its just chicken broth with a scrambled egg thrown in. Let me know if you need anymore ideas. Your doing a great job. Keep up the good work sweetie. Take care Hugs KimC

Hi Kim, I am still on the non caloric liquids(basically clear liquids) and up until today the only thing that stayed in well was green jello(as of today that doesnt even wanna go in). no other flavor works for me now. I am allowed chicken broth which I HATE since that Ketosis Diet but tonight I made homemade chicken soup and I had 2 oz of broth and it worked awesome. I also ate the popsicle which was delicious. I have no other ideas. I am so afraid to try things I know I didnt like before...I am just counting the days until next Friday when i go to the dr and hopefully advance to puree foods. Other ideas if you have them, would be greatly appreciated! Thank you so much! hugssssssssss ~Krista

The popsicles are great, and I find that I can barely get in any liquid. I drink warm mint tea with splenda. Seems to work for me. 5/2/05, was my surgery and I am really struggling. Good Luck, Melissa.

Melissa I am having the same problem with liquids. For some reason I was stuck on the 2 oz per hour mentality so I know I am not even close to what I need to get in. So today I had about 1 oz of jello, 4 oz of my water bottle which I am trying to sip at constantly, and 2 oz of chicken broth and a popsicle. I am no where close to my fluid intake. I will keep on trying tho. Maybe we can try to support each other thru our "drinking problems" I am here on and off during the day as pain allows. Feel free to email me anytime hugssssss ~Krista

Krista, I still eat sf popsicles at 6 months out. They are great! Really, you are going to get bored on the liquid diet. The idea here is to let your baby pouch heal, and get the fluids in. Drink your water, crystal light, sf popsicles, broth, just get it in. By the time you see the doc, you will be ready to eat, but will be surprised at how little you will be able to ingest. Then the real experimentation begins. Some people can eat sugar, some can't, hopefully you will not be able to. Myself, I could not stand cold water after surgery, before surgery I loved it cold. Now I like it just slightly cooler than room temp. Everyone's different. Good luck! Pam

Since you already know it is alright to have the popcicles, I will give you the "skinny" on the sugar alcohols, Sugar alcohols are a modified sweetner, usually ending in "...tol", such as maltitol or sorbitol. They are VERY SLOW to breakdown in the digestive system, and as such are not in the body usually long enough for the caloric content to be absorbed. Like fiber, they are listed as carbs in the goverment required labeling but thed calories are NOT included in the totals. They do not make most people dump from their consumption, but ingesting large quantities can have a laxative effect. One in 10,000 or 100,000 will dump on Splenda (I am one of those fortunate ones who do. Go figure). However, since they do not breakdown quickly and get absorbed, they will tend to cause gas in even small quantities. There is no restriction to drinking or eating anything hot or cold, but remember that your pouch may react differently now then your stomach did before surgery. Peter

Peter, thank you so much for the info! I hate being as confused and unsure as I was yesterday. I have to do whatever I can to get my liquids in, I just CANT get them in. I am going to go buy some crystal light this weekend and hopefully that will be easier on me to drink than plain water. It gets old after a while...which is shocking cuz before surgery I was drinkin 3 liters a day!! oh well enough about this thank you again!!! hugssssssss ~Krista
