Food share is short on turkeys and food donations...please help
Don't know if any of you have donated a turkey or two to Foodshare or your local food bank, yet (if you're able to in these tough times), but, there are SO many in need this year, that the demand is higher than the donations.
If you are near Hartford/Bloomfield, Foodshare is right in Bloomfield off of Bloomfield Ave Ext, near the MLC CREC magnet school (and Pepperidge Farm)...Turkeys are pretty cheap. Pricechopper has them for I think .49 cents a lb. If you can, please consider calling your local food bank, the Salvation Army, or Foodshare and drop off a turkey or canned Thanksgiving food items like stuffing mix, cranberries, pumpkin, veggies, etc.
I know that it's going to get tough for us. Bob is losing his job this month (being forced out because of his medical) and we're going to have a tough time of it in the future...We are quite nervous about this, for there are NO aviation type jobs in this area and we cannot relocate. God, I hope the bank is flexible in helping us with our mortgage until things get better and we can put it on the market...it'll never sell now and for what we need to pay for it. It's just awful what this country has become, so sad. But, I'm going to buy at least one turkey to donate to someone that's even lesser than we are. At least now, we can still afford food. I hope and pray that it doesn't get that bad.
I wish you all a joyous THanksgiving and I am thankful for all of my OH friends. You've all been so wonderful over the last 3 years.

Paula,
I have a friend that is director of a food pantry in New London and he told me donations are WAY down and that also United Way is donating less to the local charities. Perhaps next year we could do a food drive?
I just did one with an organization I'm involved with and we raised $1,000 plus over 500 pounds of food.

Things are so tight here but I do give when I can to places. I know at work I have a donation taken out each week for United Way. Doesn't help the food pantries but I am lucky to do that with the hubby. His theory is we need it too. His parents are all about getting a free meal so to speak. It's hard for me since I was always tought to give since someone is worse off than you.
I shall now be know as Hagatha: Queen of the queens.
