recommend your dr!!
hello all..new here...i just went to the hospital of central ct (new britain) for their bariatic surgery seminar and met Dr Giles...i was not that impressed with him..i am going to the st francis seminar next month to meet that dr...i went to dr aranow years ago, but my job denied surgery then...also..i have over 100 lbs to lose, but really want the lap band...though i dont think that is the best option since i am also a chocoholic...any opinions??? thanks!!
I love Dr. Aranow. Let me tell you tho, the lab band wouldn't be the best if you are a chocoholic since you can still eat it. I know someone that had the band and hasn't lost more than maybe 40 pounds and she has had the band over a year now. She eats anything she wants. BUT... everyone is different.
I shall now be know as Hagatha: Queen of the queens.

Hi Dawn,
I remember you! I'd stick with Dr Aranow...cause that's who I know...Both me and my husband had him and we've done great...
My husband is also a chocoholic, and he decided against the lap band cause it wouldn't stop him from eating it...Do the RNY, you'll have better results..my opinion...

I used Dr. Raftopoulos at St. Francis and would recommend him to anyone. His knowledge, statistics and follow-up plans are excellent. I absolutely echo the comments about Dr. Aranow! I am going through the Lap Band process now and hope to have surgery before the end of the year. Dr. A removed my gallbladder several years ago and he is wonderful. There is absolutely not a Doctor in the world I would trust more than him. His staff is also wonderful...maybe you can work a little extra with the psychologist about your sweet tooth. Dr. Wirth in Glastonbury is great!
Good Luck with your decision!

I can't say enough good things about him! More surgery options, RNY, Lap Band, Sleeve & I think he's doing the DS now, he also does his surgeries laproscopically. You won't have to lose 10 pounds first or be on a liquid diet before either ++++++++++++
The only downside is he doesn't do "seminars" so you don't really get to meet him until you've submitted your paperwork, unless you go to one of the support meetings (he does attend them).... he's salaried by Yale so he doesn't "advertise" so to speak for surgery because it's not like he makes any more money.....it's not a for-profit "business" for him.
Upside is he's highly skilled and has the BEST bedside manner!!
