Connecticare and WLS

Was just informed that as of 1/1/09 my company is switching to Connecticare.  I'm still waiting to hear if they picked up the rider yet.  Can anyone give me some feedback about this insurance and WLS?  Is it approval friendly?  Physician supervised weight management policies, etc?
Thanks, Maria

I had Connecticare first...got a complete denial...no WLS ... no exceptions...upon renewal my employer switched the entire company to Oxford so I could have the surgery...I hope things work out differently for you!

I know that Connecticare has a rider if the employer picks it up.  Was there an exclusion on the policy?

You mean CONNECTI-DON'T-CARE?
I was told no way,no how will they cover WLS surgery.
I had to go job shopping to find a company that offered insurance that would cover the surgery.
GOOD LUCK!

Have you talked to anyone at Connecticare?  My surgeon said Connecticare was one of the first insurance companies to offer WLS and the FIRST to get out of the WLS business

Thanks to all *****plied.  It doesn't matter at this point because i just found out my employer, The Connecticut Hospice, Inc. will not pick up the rider.  Not in the budget!  Bunch of b.s. if you ask me.  I'm the only one in the organization who advocated for the rider.  Why would they pick it up for one person.  Very hurtful and discouraging but that's life.  I guess WLS is not in my life path.  I need to deal with it and move on.  Did 7 months of research on all the surgeries and prayed alot too but it was all for nothing.  Sorry just a bit down about it but I will certainly get over it.  I'm certainly going to miss going on this site almost every day (7 months).  It's been inspirational hearing all the stories.  Thanks to everyone who offered so much insight to all my questions.

Don't know about WLS, but they were the best insurance company I have ever had.  When my employer dropped them, we almost revolted.

My surgery was approved with CT Care, with little trouble.  After meeting their specific approval guidelines, which were slightly different than other comanies- that is.  After my insurance was renewed a few times, I noticed that my coverage would no longer include WLS, so I was lucky I got it when I did with my employer.

Every employer's rider is different, so you'll have to look at your coverage booklet and see what it says.

Good luck to you.

Best,
