Hi Folks, I know everyone experiences hair loss 4-8 months out. Mine started at around 4 month. I am now 9 months out and it's worse than ever. I have lost almost all of my bangs! And the worst part is that they are sticking straight out, and I can't do a thing with them. My hair is also very very very dry. Can someone enlighten me or tell me what they did? Nutritionally, is there something I should be doing that I'm not? I take multivitamin w/iron every day and my calclium 2x a day. I know this is normal, but I am so stressed out about it, I'm about to die! Thanks. JA

Hi, JA! Everything that I have been told by my surgeon regarding hair loss is that it's caused by insufficient protein. He recommends at least 60 grams a day. Are you getting that much? Bette

Yes, I get all my protein in every day. Almost everything I eat is protein. My hair is actually breaking off and falling out at the same time!

Hey JA!!! I know you are freaking out but I don't think you are doing anything wrong. My hair is really dry because I color it. I did use a Suave hot oil treatment this weekend which really seemed to help. I know VO5 makes one too. Try that. Your getting your protein in right?!? I know you don't like the protein shakes but the pre-made ones are not bad. I drink the Atkins or Slim Fast low carb ones. I did loose hair from about 4-7 months out but it has seemed to have stopped now. Does the hair break or fall out or both? I still love ya with or with out bangs!!! Chryssie PS I may not be able to walk this week I am supposed to have a meeting tomorrow at 6:30 PM. I will let you know for sure.

Hey Chryssie, Thanks for your support....it's falling out and breaking off at the same time. I 've conditioned it with every product I can get my hands on. I just bought Nioxin for hair loss...let's see what happens with that. I'm considering going to the dermatologist to get her opinion. UGHUGH! Let us know if you can make it tomorrow! xoxo JA

I'm also having a bad time with hair loss, I'm 5+ months post op. I can get 1/4 cup of hair every morning in the shower. My doctor put me on ZBEC, and then I switched to straight Zinc. It seems to be helping somewhat. I take 50mg a day, but is it ever upsetting. Hang in there, they say it does improve.

Paula, You hang in too! Thanks for the tips! I am so desperate, and if it were just all over, I wouldn't mind, but most of it is right in the front so it's quite noticeable (especially in the past week). Good luck to you too! JA

Couple things to try: Supplement your vitamins with Folic Acid tablets 500 mg at least once a day...this will also help with your nails, as a nice side efffect. I've heard people say they use shampoo with Biotin in it- though I've never tried it personally. Infusium is a liquid hair strengthener that works well on damaged hair and helps 'heal' the foilicle, in a way. Unfortunately- there isn't a lot you can do to 'fix' damaged hair, but you can get a nice new haircut and wait for the new growth. For some people the hair loss effect is much more dramatic than others. Hang in there. I'm sure it will slow down soon! best, Lisa C

I'm going to beauty supply place tonight to buy some MORE products and hair bands...maybe if I pull it back, it won't drive me so crazy! UGHGHGH! Thanks Lisa! JA

I am newly post op but was concerned about this going into surgery, I cut my thick long hair in preparation. I couldn't stand the idea of looking down and seeing loads of it in the shower. I have heard biotin helps, my friend who is 3 years out used it and helped her, I think the hair grew back thicker then ever. Another thing is not to wash your hair too much, and when you do, use very cool water, I have heard its the ho****er that opens the follicle and releases the hair. Another thing to do is never use mousse or anything with alcohol in it, I would check all the products you reguarly use on your hair. Mousse has always made my hair fall out. And lastly I bought a really cute long haired wig, I figure if its gonna fall out then I am gonna go with it until it looks better. I wear it ever so often now just for a change of pace. Good Luck.
