Hi everyone, This is my first entry to this community. I have been contemplating surgery for years. I finally decided that I am going to investigate the different WLS available. I was so excited to hear about the Lap Band procedure. Thursday April 7, my 32nd B-day I took my first step and attended informational seminar by HSR with Dr. Valin and staff. I am very disappointed to know that my insurance(Anthem BC/BS) no longer covers this surgery because the deemed it "invesigational". I reviewed the policy online and it stated that the policy will not be effect until June 1,2005. When Peggy from Dr. Valin office called to set up consultation appointment I mentioned this cause to her and she said as far as she know Anthem no longer covers for this procedure. Now what? If anyone knows more about this coverage please share the infomation. Thanks Shawnie

Hi LaShawn, Maybe they do cover the Lap RNY procedure? It's worth checking into. Good luck to you. Anne

Shawnie...I was also told by their office that BC/BS doesn't cover the band( I am going for RNY so it didn't pertain to me)....but I have talked to a few people who have had it done thru that insurance. It can't hurt to talk to Debbie about it when you go in for your first appointment with her. She is very informative! good luck hugsssssss Krista
