Protein Drinks
Hi Everyone,
I'm trying to suppliment my breakfast with 1 protien shake to get familiar with drinking them after the surgery.
Are we allowed to "doctor" them up a little with a banana or some flavorings like vanilla extract or mint? As long as it's blended really well?
I had a strawberry one this morning...and I could have used it to spackle my walls for wall paper...
I also came across a B12 Lozenger..that was cherry flavored 5,000 mgs. It was actually pretty good. I know the nutritionists mentioned a B12 that goes under the tongue...does anyone else use a Lozenger..or does it make a difference?
For those of you with a sweet tooth like me...I came across Jello instant pudding...CHEESE CAKE flavored...sugar & fat free! It was very good! I put some fresh strawberries on it & it was HEAVEN!
ps....I'm having MAJOR Caffiene withdrawal...I cut out coffee to get ready for the surgery...& I've been SOOO weepy and head ackey...I'm hoping it's just the caffiene getting out of my system & not the "blue funk" depression thing...SIGH...I'm REALLY HAPPY I have vacation this week...otherwise I'd be a total bear at work with the withdrawals...LOL!
Thanks everyone,
Mickey

Hey Mickey,
I had to cut caffeine out cold turkey when I developed a heart arrythmia a few years ago. I never had a withdrawal symptom....and I used to drink an entire 10 cup pot by myself. I think the reason I didn't have any withdrawal symptoms is because the heart Dr. told me to take one aspirin in the morning every day.
Its just my thoughts on it....not medically proved!
P.S. My arrythmia cleared up and I now drink 2 cups of the lite coffee (50% caffeine)
Take care,
Kelly
Wow Kelly that is amazing on your arrythmia clearing up.
I cannot wait to have my blood pressure go back to normal...& my back to stop aching from the extra weight putting pressure where the arthritis is in my hips.
It sounds like your Dr gave some good advice with the aspirin a day..
after reading your post I started incorporating 1 in the morning and it's MUCH better.
Thanks again for the tip & support
Mickey

RNY on 05/14/14 with
Hello Mickey,
I just wanted to suggest to you to try the carnation instant breakfast carb conscious, it's really quite tasty. My doctor says that's a great source of everything we need after surgery. I had lap band and I'm not sure if it's different for rny or not.
Don't worry about the coffee withdrawl I went through it and it seems to go away after a week or so, at least it did for me.
Good luck and hang in there, it gets easier.
Patty
Hi Patti,
I picked up the carb conscious carnation breakfast. It's very good, I'm just concerned that there isn't enough protein? I'm having open RNY so I'll need to check in with the nutritionist and see if I can have it.
The withdrawals from coffee are MUCH BETTER.
I never realized how addicted I was to the stuff. Worst part on such a pretty day like to day there is nothing better than a Dunkin Donuts Ice coffee while working out in the yard....
SIGH>>>>>>
Thanks bunches for the heads up on the carnation breakfast.

Congratulations on the caffeine withdrawl before surgery. I never listened to anyone..and I know a lot of my immediate post op problems had lots to do with my withdrawl...and less to do with my surgery. I made myself more miserable than I needed to. Surprisinly DD decaf iced coffee..is not as bad as decaf coffee for me...try it-you may like it!
I suggest adding Unjury protein powder to boost your protein intake with that Instand Breakfast. It mixes easily and does not change the texture of things like most protein powders. They have a website...Unjury.com.

Try some small pieces of banana to spice it up, perhaps just a hint of vanilla. No matter how well you make them taste, you'll get tired of them after a while.
I took the sublingual B12 for the first couple of months, switched to chewables, and then to capsules. The capsules contain B12, calcium, and required supplements from A to Z. I get them from Vista Vitamins.
