long time no talk

Hello to everyone,

As Kathy W. pointed out on another thread I haven't been around for quite a while.  I guess the old adage "Life Happens" is true.  I have been losing weight steadily and I feel wonderful.  I have not had one moment of regret or trouble related to the surgery.

In August while on a bike ride on the Farmington Canal I fell and managed with my usual grace to stop the pavement with my face.  As a result I knocked out my front tooth which then went totally  through my upper lip.  I also ripped out two fingernails at the bed (by far the most painful part of the injury). This resulted in a lot of stitches and a three week liquid diet or as my brother referred to it my "crash diet".  I have since had two root canals, numerous appointments with a plastic surgeon, cat scans and exrays, and I have rotator cuff surgery and gum surgery coming up.  None of which ever happened when I was fat.  On another medical topic I received a bad result from my mammogram and needed to go in for a biopsy. The Doctor seems to think that part of the reason they were able to spot my problem is due to the weight loss.

I don't usually talk too much about numbers because that wasn't my primary reason for surgery but that said I am now 50 years old 5'4" and 157 pounds.  I would love to see a little more gone but if I don't I will be fine.  Thanks for being there.

Wow, Violet!  Congratulations on the weight loss, and here comes my batwings to give you a great big hug.  I also have a love/hate relationship with bikes.  Everyday I look longingly at my sons bike and think about hopping on.  I am very graceful (not) and after reading your post I think I might get some bubblewrap before I try it.  Please keep us posted on the biopsy results.

WOW!!!  You're doing excellent, in spite of your awful accident...You poor thing.  I feel your pain just from reading your post.  Please be advised that a head injury of your type can lead to brain trauma, memory loss, ADD symptoms, etc.

You may want to have your doctor send you for a brain scan to make sure everything is a/ok in there...so many people and doctors (especially) don't tend to our very fragile brains.  And things get over looked or mis-diagnosed way down the road after a mild or severe traumatic brain injury.  Now, I'm not trying to freak you out, just have been recently on the quest for better brain health myself with a newly diagnosed ADD in myself that I probably have had since childhood and has been exhasberated by a few blows (even minor ones) to the head in minor accidents.

Hang in there...I hope the worst of this injury is behind you and that you continue on your excellent journey as a big loser!  I'm sure the "crash diet" helped put you back into losing mode.

Thanks for all of the encouraging posts.  As to the biopsy the results are back NO CANCER.  Just a few cells of atypical ductal hyperplasia.  Most likely I will just continue to go for Mammograms every 6 months at the hospital.  Paula as to the brain injury my regular Dr. sent me immediately to go for a CAT scan the day after the accident and everything was fine with that also.  I am doing fine and having fun.  I have become a consignment shopper and for the most part I seems to rent my clothes.  At times I feel like Julia Roberts in Pretty Woman, I wear outfits that I never would have dreamed of previously and feel like a different person in them.
