Useful Web Site
Hi, All!
Packaged foods come with nutritional info. on their labels, but have you ever wondered about foods that don't...fruit, vegetables, meat, seafood, etc.? There's a database maintained by the U.S. Dept. of Agriculture which provides that info. It's nal.usda.gov/fnic/foodcomp/search (with "www." in front, of course). You can enter one or more keywords and then search the database for all foods with the keyword(s). It's a very specific search, so if you don't find what you're looking for, try a slight variation. For example, I was wondering if there's any protein in strawberries (I look for protein everywhere now), so I entered "strawberry". A list of food products came up including all sorts of strawberry-flavored and strawberry-containing products (yogurt, gelatin, preserves, etc.), but no fresh strawberries. So I tried again, this time entering "strawberries", and was able to choose from a variety of fresh and frozen strawberries, including whole (small, medium or large), sliced, pureed, by the pint, by the cup, by the oz., etc. After I made my selection, I was provided with all sorts of nutritional info., including calories, grams of a lot of different vitamins and nutrients, and grams of protein, carbohydrate, fiber, fat, etc.
Debby
Good Morning Debby,
Your right this site does look very useful. It definitely has more information than the web site I usually use. I'm still in pre-op stage but I'm trying to get as much resources lined up as possible before I actually need them. I have received so much useful information using the message boards.
Thanks,
Diana
