BK, IHOP & Fast food nonsense
Well, you may have read about it in today's news: Burger King has introduced a new breakfast sandwich: The Enormous Omelet. For those of you who HAVEN'T heard, it's one sausage patty, two eggs, two slices of American cheese and three strips of bacon on a bun.
Total nutritional damage: 730 calories, 47 grams of fat, 415 mg cholesterol, 1860 mg sodium. Yum!
So much for fast food restaurants downsizing, huh? But, hey, if someone wants to go eat that monstrosity, more power to 'em. At least they'll know what they're getting into.
Following my reading that, I thought I'd visit the IHOP website. My husband and I don't go there very often, but sometimes. And I thought I'd have a look-see at the nutritional information on their foods. Guess what? YOU CAN'T.
First off, there is no option on their website to click for the information. You have to click on the site map (assuming you know to do that), the click on the FAQ section. Scroll down, and you'll get this question and its oh-so-informative answer:
**Is nutritional information available?
**IHOP offers a wide variety of food that should allow most people to choose a meal that suits their dietary needs. We do not maintain nutritional data on our food.
HUH? They don't maintain data on the food that they sell in almost 2000 restaurants in 48 states? Something doesn't smell right here, and it ain't overdone eggs! How are Americans, who are being encouraged to make more informed and healthy food choices, supposed to do that when a corporation is hiding the very information we need?
Well, no more IHOP for me!

I am going to add my two cents here too! A month or so ago, I was going to have a REDUCED-FAT blueberry muffin from Dunkin Donuts.
I looked up the nutrition info before I ate it, thankfully. What a shock!!
440 calories, 12 grams fat, 75 grams carbs, 35 grams sugar!!
People eat these thinking they are making a healthy choice by asking for reduced fat! What a joke. I was really angry about that also!
Just wanted to let you know.
Anne

Hi Anne,
Funny you mention that because I was at the DD site checking out how much fat/calories are in a hot chocolate and decided to check out how much was in their reduced fat muffin since I had had one from time to time. I couldn't beleive the information when I saw it. There was less fat in a chocolate glazed donut!

Low fat as we all know does not mean healthy. I am suprised at the "diet" foods that are out there on the market...touted as healthy that are loaded with sugar. Just look at a Weigh****chers desert...not healthy of good to eat all!
Fast food is a disaster! Nothing healthy or good about it. When I travel it can be frustrating at times. Anymore if I go to Mc Donalds or BK, I order a plain burger and throw out the bun.
I confess that I'm a big fan of the "new and improved" McD's Happy Meal.
I get either 4 McNuggets or a cheeseburger with the apple slices and milk. Usually can't finish the burger (sometimes can finish the nuggets). The milk comes home for later, and I split the apples with the dogs. (laughs) Apples are their new favorite food!
Plus, I get to be magnanimous and give the toy to some kid who looks like he/she could use a lift.
