OT...anyone have adult ADD? Questions..
Hi All,
My therapist believes that I have adult ADD (probably had it since I was a kid, but it was overlooked)...and the shrink I go to now in Farmington won't treat it. Instead, he's putting me on more and more anti-depressant medication that is making me have a horrible headache.
If you have ADD or ADHD, what doctor do you use? I cannot find a psychiatrist that specializes in it and will treat me.
I live in Windsor, but am willing to travel as far as New Haven, but that's it.
Thanks,
Paula

My PCP won't touch me with psych issues cause when I moved here, I had pre-existing and she wants me to use a shrink.
But, please email me the neurologists name and #

Paula:
1st, this is more common than you think, being dx'd as an adult with either ADD or ADHD.
As that my middle grandson was just dx'd with ADHD, we have been doing research into who to send him to for meds. I do believe that you need to look for someone who practices "Neuropsychiatry". You might also want to see a Neurologist or call one for a referral list. As well, you might want to call your insurance company and get a list from them. I know that ADD can be daunting to deal with. Come to think of it, Dr. A. might be able to help lead you in the right direction and this could be part of the cause for your food/exercise struggles. Staying on track is hard enough without ADD. Makes sense to me, right? Hang in there kiddo.

Hi, Friend....(I sound like McCain!!..UGH)
Yes, I need to find a neuropsych...My therapist told me that more and more women are now being diagnosed because they were overlooked as kids/girls cause they don't present with the "hyper" part of it. And, as adults, they diagnose us with thyroid, depression and a myriad of other things. It's SO frustrating.
Dr A will refer me to the ADHD clinic in his building and I've heard nothing but TERRIBLE things about them...so, I'm not going to go there.
I'm going to keep searching and searching...
Now at least I know I'm not lazy, crazy or stupid...the reasons I've been given and told myself when I've not been able to complete tasks, get things started, things are like chaos, etc. Arghhh.
Thanks, T.
