Mon. Night Support Group Meetings
Hi, All!
Just a reminder that there are two support group meetings Mon. night, 3/21.
The Middlesex Hospital support group meeting is being replaced by a session to be led by Dr. Aranow during which he'll talk about his efforts with various organizations to fight the trend of insurance companies refusing to pay for WLS and what each of us can do to help. The meeting is open to everyone (regardless of surgeon or surgical status) and is from 7 - 8 p.m.
The Hamden support group meeting will have a guest speaker, a psychotherapist from Hamden who's been lapbanded. Some of the regular attendees at the meeting are (or have been) patients of her's. Having had WLS herself, it would seem that her perspective may be more helpful than that of the average psychotherapist in dealing with food issues. The group isn't affiliated with any particular hospital or surgeon and is open to everyone, both pre- and post-op. It meets at the Hamden Senior Center (behind the Miller Library) on Dixwell Ave. from 6:30 - 8 p.m.
I'm planning to attend the Hamden meeting (for selfish reasons -- since I've already had my surgery, food is more of an issue for me than insurance) and I hope to see some of you there (and maybe out to dinner after?). If anyone needs directions, please e-mail me.

Hi Debby and everyone,
Thank you for reminding us about the two meetings Monday night.
Although I have already had surgery I feel it is extremely important for post-ops to do what they can to ensure insurance coverage for our friends in CT. We all know people who are fighting with insurance and while it's heartbreaking, there IS something we can do. By making our voices heard and educating those in the legislature, plus whatever else we learn at the meeting, will help to provide insurance coverage for the same life-saving tool we post-ops have been given.
Hope to see you all there Monday night.
