Surgery pre-1995?
Hey everyone,
I was reading on another board about people that had their stomachs stapled before 1995, like in the late 80's and they were saying how they dropped weight in the beginning, but ended up gaining it all back.
This is seriously scary to me. I don't ever want to go back to where I was before, even if I think where I'm at now sucks.
Was there something different about the surgery back then? Something we're getting that they didn't? I have a great aunt that had the surgery way back in the early 80's and she's always been heavy.. I didn't know she even had the surgery until recently.
Maybe these patients just weren't educated enough? Like one woman said she had a reversal after gaining weight back and her stomach actually had NOT expanded.. so it was a regain due to "chewing and spitting".
Just thought I'd seek some words of wisdom from you all.
Thanks,
Michelle

A lot of stomachs were not transected back then..and the staple lines eventually failed.
I think there are a fair amount of people with modern procedures that regain as well...the surgery did not fail them..they failed the surgery.
After the honeymoon.....and for some of us DURING it...the responsibility is where it has always been..on our own shoulders...to maintain diet and exercise.
I think the woman referenced must have done a lot more chewing than she did spittiing. Think about the statement inherent in this....if that is not an eating disorder in full bloom..I don't know what is!!!!
If nothing changes, then nothing changes!
