Hi, Im from Massachusetts but I have Conneticare Insurance because my job is based in Connecticut...In the past, I have had big, annoying problems with this company and getting them to pay for things. I was wondering if anyone here has this insurance company and how things have gone for you. I am currently waiting for approval from insurance, I have my surgery date for May 25 and I really will be dissapointed if I have to postpone it because my insurance is being difficult. Any help would really be great to calm me...Thanks, Ellen

A lot of this will depend on your surgeons office's familiarity with Connecticare. However, unless you have a specifically worded exclusion, CT Care does routinely approve the surgery when medically necessary. They do require a letter of medical necessity from your PCP and Surgeon, as far as I know. They also require you to see a PSYCHIATRIST for an evaluation and to get a letter of recommendations. Please note that this is unique to CT Care, they will only accept a Psychiatrist, not a Psychologist. Unfortunately, most surgeons offices work with psychologists. So, you may need to do this on your own. And, perhaps out of pocket. BUt, better to get it done and submit a claim for reimbursment than to wait around. DO NOT let your surgeons office tell you a psychologist will be enough. They WILL deny you, and that will just prolong your process. I had absolutely NO problems with CT Care. They were quick to approve once they had all the necessary info and they paid with no problem. I do agree with your assesment of CT being difficult to get to pay sometimes. But, they came through for me with flying colors.

Hi, Ellen! Connecticare approved my lap-band surgery without a hitch in December 2003. No questions asked, no delays. However, I will say that my surgeon no longer takes their insurance, because CTCare was horrible about reimbursing the doctors. As result, to see my surgeon for followups, I have to pay out of pocket.

Hi Ellen, I am scheduled for my lapband surgery tomorrow, 3/18. I had no problem with CTCare at all. My husband's insurance did have a rider saying that wls is covered. My Doctor's office was very efficent and they had all their ducks in order before submitting, I was approved within 24 hours. Good Luck. Corgi

Hi Ellen, I have ctcare as well. I had no problems with approval and dh is going next week for his surgery and he had no problems as well. It is my understanding that CTcare is going to stop coverage for wls after april 1st unless your employer carries a special rider for it. You might want to look into this with your HR dept. Good luck. Eileen
